Dear Sir/Madam, I am trying to use path analysis to analyse rays that reach certain region of my detector (detector colour). So I use filter string to define the interested region. And the path analysis results is shown below. The detector is object 42.After that, I want to take a look of the first ray path shown in the document above in 3D layout viewer. So I opened the ZRD file in the 3D layout viewer accordingly and use the same filter string with &_1 added at the end. The result is shown below.It is surprise to me that in the above picture, there are more than 2 Branches shown. But according to the path analysis result there is supposed to be only 2 branches for the path number 1. So I tried to add&_1 to the end of the string of the path analysis window. The result is shown below:The number of branches changed to 50. May I know the reason of this discrepancy? Did I miss any step in order to see the first path in the path analysis results correctly?Hope can hear from you soo

Hello, I am trying to model a simple 2-flat mirror periscope using a 2008 version of Zemax. I am not sure how to go about entering a vertical displacement to set the distance between the mirrors. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate.v/r, -Alex

Attempting to use “Named Filters” feature in NSC OpticStudio 23.1.3, following the directions from the Help System. The feature does not appear to work.Ex:Does not filter for Source 144. It does filter, but the filter is random as far as I can tellHowever,Filters for Source 144 correctlyIn addition, an extra semicolon appears wherever the cursor left off when I minimize then re-open the Named Filters tab. The bug may be related.Named filters tab adding semicolon wherever cursor left when minimizing tab.Thanks!

Anyone have an example of the NSC Editor settings you used to create a Swept object?  My first attempts simply aren’t drawing at all, with various simplified examples, so I suspect I’m missing something very simple.  But beyond fixing my simple problem, the documentation is pretty sparse for a somewhat complex object like this, and searching the KnowledgeBase or the Community turns up almost nothing, so it would be great to see some interesting things people have created or hear about challenges and pitfalls.  Here’s a screenshot, and I’ve attached my files for those who want to dive deeper. 

OS version 2022 R2.02My problem: I cannot select/use the new CAD files i placed in Documents\Zemax\Objects\CAD Files.So when in NSQ mode i make an empty object into a CAD  part: STEP/IGES/SAT object, the selection pop-up does not show the new CAD files, but it shows old CAD files (that i made and used in previous Zemax versions) that are not even present in this directory anymore. And when i select one of these old CAD objects, they are even shown in the NSC 3D layout plot!! How is that even possible? Is it possible to refresh the CAD list?

Hello! How to add to my NSC design a silicon detector response curve for Color Detector? Maybe simply add a “thin filter” at the top of the detector area having this spectral characteristic, is it appropriate? Or maybe to add different weights for, e.g., 10 wavelengths based on detector response curve. Thanks

Hello,I am new in OpticsStudio and I am trying to design spectrometer for NIR range (850-1050nm). I would like to keep it simple and cheap. I started with input lens, which focuses the light into the slit (I started with circular slit aperture). Then a "standard" setup is used  - achromatic collimator, gratings and focusing lens. I used achromates as a first try, but I would like to test cheaper planconvex lenses.  I also use aperture in a front of achromatic collimator to decrease stray light and increase spatial resolution (but I am not sure if this helps). I estimated based on some theory, that slit width can be around 100 microns (I need resolution only around 2 nm). It looks OK, but when I change the slit diameter and plot RMS (spot radius) vs. wavelength is rather high. Hi everyone, I have multiple number of ray database files in non-sequential mode. The ZRD files are output of ray traces for different angles. With the multiple ZRD files, I want to see all these traced rays in my detector together. How can I achieve this? Any comments or ideas are welcome.  

I have a macro that converts .tif files to .dat files via the CONVERTIMAGETOGRID keyword and that all works like a charm and it creates wagonloads of .dat files.  What I’d like to do next is import those files into a prescription with an established Grid Phase surface via the same macro . . . but I don’t see a ZPL way to do that?Anybody have any ideas?Thanks!

Hi,I’d like to have a sanity check for correct calculation of wavefront error in the attached design. This sequential model is for collimation of a multi-mode laser diode onto an LCOS surface and I would like to assess the wavefront error at the LCOS.Based on what I have read in the Help PDF and in the Zemax Community & Knowledgebase, I believe that for an afocal system with collimated beam at the image plane, I should use the Absolute 2 setting for Reference OPD under System Explorer\Advanced (rather than the default Exit Pupil). This is due to the fact that the exit pupil is a long distance (>26m in this specific model) from the image plane.Adjusting the Reference OPD setting does make a big difference to the Wavefront Map and RMS value, so I would like to be sure that I have the correct setting before performing the Wavefront Error analysis (in the attached model and other similar ones). Thanks in advance for your help/advice. Michael

Hello everyone,I currently need to model the influence of the polarization of 2 sources in non sequential mode in the context on the creation of interferences. Hence, I thought of putting different polarization components after each source in order to see the influence in the contrast of interferences when the rays propagate through the whole system. I used the component “Jones Matrix” so far, but it is more a tool in order to check if the polarization is correctly modify than something which have a real impact on the modification of polarization. I saw a post where it was recommended to use a KDP rectangular volume with a thickness to define in order to have the good polarization. However I didn't really got how to correctly define the thickness in order to have all the polarizing components I need which are a linear polarizer, a quarter wave plate or a half wave plate. To conclude would like to know how to set any polarization in non sequential mode. Hope it was clear.Best regards,Ma
