I am having two issues with the new Zemax Ansys license. I will open four instances throughout the day, but it will show me using 4 seats of a license. My guess it has something to do with switching from a wired ethernet connection to wifi throughout the day, but it is pretty frustrating to have to close them out to free up seats. Currently the license manager says I am using four seats. I have no Ansys or Zemax running, but it still says my computer is taking those seats, so I can’t use OS right now.
This may be something of a niche issue, but I’d like to document it nonetheless.Due to some IT issues, I’m currently running the network license server locally, i.e. on the same machine as the client software.Initially this worked well, but after a while the FlexNet Licensing server would refuse to start, despite all services etc. running. What solved it for me was:Disabling other network adapters, especially some related to VMs Changing adapter priorities with the interface metric didn’t help, they need to be physically disabled. Disabling IPv6 on the remaining (main) network adapter. This persists until the next time the system is loaded (e.g. after reboot or resuming after hibernation, as the VM network adapters are restarted then - but that might be a separate issue). This is ok as a workaround for now, but I can imagine this could be a blocker for some people.Happy to share more information with Ansys staff if needed.
Hello, We are using the new Ansys style OS licenses and I have a license ‘checked out’, but it still gives me the ‘no OS license found’ error if I change networks. For example, if I move from a wired connection to WiFi, it will tell me I don’t have a OS license and close my windows. Am I checking out the license wrong? Thanks,Kaleb
I am not reliably able to find the source files that I create in the drop down menu that is used to specify the file to use for the SOURCE FILE surface type in non-sequential mode.Doesn’t seem to use the Object sFolder specified in the Project Preferences . Does anybody know where the source files that you create should be stored. Why can’t Zemax simply allow the user to type the path and filename instead of having to interface through a GUI dropdown menu. I have spent may hours trying to do this. Thanks.
Like a previous poster here, I had an educational license for zemax last year. I am an astronomer leading some students through a project and we’d like to use zemax. My previous license expired in February, but I haven’t gotten any help from an inquiry sent to Ansys about renewal. I also tried emailing the zemax support address, and got a reply that because I’m not on a commercial license, I can’t expect any help from them! It’s kind of baffling. If you don’t want to support educational use fine, but stop pretending you do.
Installation ZEMAX-OpticStudio 16.5 SP1 on the computer with the processor i9-12900KF working on Windows 11.
Dear All,I have a problem of installation ZEMAX-OpticStudio 16.5 SP1 on the computer with the processor i9-12900KF. The computer works on Windows 11. A black screen with the message that the computer has problem and must be restarted was obtained at the end of the installation. The program was installed and some windows like lens data can be opened. But, when the MTF window was opened the program stops working and closes. I am ready to pay for solution of the problem. Send me email to email@example.com.Sincerely,Mark Gokhler Ph.D
Dear all,I have a problem about the Zemax 16 installtation on the win11.When I first install the file 16.0.0 OpticStudio_Prerequisites, it always crashes during the installation so that it cannot be installed completely. I have updated the file Directx_Jun2010 already. But it seems not useful for this case. Although we can install the Zemax 16, it cannot show some analysis like spot diagram, MTF, that is, black screen.Could anyone meet this problem before and solve it already?
When I run the install for Zemax there is no option to choose a location. It defaults to the C drive with no way to change that...as far as I can tell. My C drive is near full. My D drive is near empty. How do I install on the D drive?I tried moving the install files to the D drive and run the install from there but it continued to put the files in C where I don't have enough space.. Short of installing a bigger C drive and reinstalling all my programs...etc what can I do? Thanks for the help and all the best,
How to install OpticStudio on our local server and access through browser? We cannot use Zemax Cloud Server to access OpticStudio from the browser due to security reasons. So, looking for instructions on how to do this locally. Thank you.
Hello, I have contacted Ansys several times through their website, but I havent heard anything from them. I have also tried to email the Zemax team and I got reply saying I am not eligible for tech support. Who should I contact in order to get this issue resolved? Thank you very much.
Hey everyone,I am going to teach an OpticStudio course at a university and they have an academic license for all Ansys products including OpticStudio. However, what surprised me is that as far as I understood it is not possible for students or me to install and use OpticStudio locally, without a remote connection to the university Ansys server.I distinctly remember that a few years ago I did an online course at a university and got an OpticStudio license which I could use without any problems fully locally.Did the policy change? Is it not possible anymore to just have OpticStudio run locally with an academic license on your private PC? Best regards,Mikayel.
Hello,we renewed our zemax (OpticStudio Pro SUL perpetual with seperate annual support license) license and the license number changed with the new license. We did not receive an activation code, but we were able to create a .lic file. What are we supposed to do with this file? Zemax is only asking for activation code.old license number has this format: LxxxxxxNew licence number: 1-1425392xxx (last three digits are xed)Zemax knowledgebase doesnt seem to know this license key format. No (working) info on how to install the new license. And I cannot open support tickets, even though I am listed as user for the license.Could anybody point me to a way on how to activate the software? Do we need to install the ansys network license manager software? My admin has already spent some time on this topic and is blocking any further help unless I get a proper tutorial which works with our license key format.Thank you.
Hi,I am trying to set up a client computer to access remotely a legacy Zemax license on a server. We have a red USB network license. I have followed the instructions I found in the Knowledgebase:https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005488041-How-to-configure-the-keyserver-for-Zemax-network-licenses-Zemax-legacy-https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/6894005237139 and went through the troubleshoot document:https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005577702-How-to-troubleshoot-Red-or-Green-USB-license-issues-Zemax-Legacy- but I can’t still get Zemax to work on the client computer. When I launch Zemax, it asks for a license and won’t start. I am a bit baffled because I think the client computer can see the license in the server on its end, as shown in the below screenshot,Screenshot of the “Sentinel Keys” tab in ACC, on the client computerBut as can be seen from the other screenshot below, when I click on “Products” in the left pane, it does not display any license
We have just switched to ANSYS subscription version (from Zemax + dongles) and I wonder how the other users here handle the problem I had yesterday:I went to a meeting with my laptop and AZOS open (in the background during that meeting) and when I came back and plugged back to the docking station, I had several pop-ups (all the same, something like 5 in a row) telling me no license was found. I closed Zemax and restarted, but noticed the license was a now professional instead of the premium I was using before closing. The license server still though I was using that license and counted it as in use. The IT had to restart the license server service (fortunately I was the only user that day as my colleagues are in vacations). I know this happened before to another colleague. How do you (everyone’s feedback is welcome) handle this kind of problem ? Is there a duration of inactivity after which the license is freed ? Is there a trick to free a license that is unsused ?I can’t imagine that
I often get questions like the above from users who are running the Ansys version of OpticStudio for the first time. So, I made this post for summarizing solutions for such cases. When a user uses the Ansys version of OpticStudio as a network license, there are a server machine that hosts the license and a client machine that communicates with the server machine to use OpticStudio. If the network configuration on these PCs or the communication between PCs is not set up correctly, an error occurs when starting OpticStudio and it cannot be used. This Post summarizes how to deal with such cases.Note: This information is current as of July 2023.
Good morning,in the transition from Zemax OpticStudio to Ansys OpticStudio, our Account number has been changed (old account number is LXXXXXX, new account number is AXXXXXXX). Wanting to open a telephone assistance call, I find myself unable to do so. Can someone help me? Thanks
