One of our goals in Ansys is to model reality so our customers get the most accurate modeling analysis that agrees with their measurements in the real world. As part of this goal, we are enhancing the Non-Sequential mode in OpticStudio. In the 22.3 release, the team brought to life the NSC single ray trace analysis; let me tell you, it is powerful and cool!With the NSC single ray trace tool, you can add a source ray anywhere in the system space to evaluate light propagating. This tool will not modify or add an NSC object in the editor, allowing you to keep your editor system clean. Also, it provides all the ray data just as the ray database does. No more filtering ray databases to find the ray you want to evaluate! If that is not enough, the tool is also available in the ZOS-API and allows the extraction of any computed parameters. See attached example code for a basic introduction to this tool.Also, look at the NSC single ray trace layout tab at the bottom of the analysis window. Here

Hi all: I think this is a bug but I will let you guys try it out as well. Although I discovered this issue only in 2026 R1.04, I believe it may be happening in previous versions as well.Using Tilt/Decenter tool crashes the LDE. Example LDE setup as shown below.LDECross-Section CXI have tried:# Added Dummy surfaces before and after Surfaces 3 and 4 and use that as START/STOP in Tilt/Decenter tool → Still Crashes.# Changed wavelength from IR to VISIBLE and use N-BK7 instead of SILICON → Still Crashes# Used ZERO for all TILT and PIVOT values → Still CrashesPS: I have opened a Support Case in parallel. Will keep you folks updated on what Ansys says.Cheers!

Hi all, I am currently doing some tolerance analysis and would like to use TEZI multiple times for the same surface to model surface form deviations of different order. My tolerance data editor looks for instance as follows (just random numbers): The surface that is created looks as follows: It looks like as if the first TEZI is used to change the surface itself to “Zernike Standard Type” and add some values. The second TEZI deletes the surface form deviation of the first TEZI again and adds a composite infront of the surface (no #3). The third TEZI changes the maximum term of this composite but doesn’t add anything. Using TSDR in addition doesn’t make it better. I am confused. Is it not intended to work as described? At least AI says that should work, even if I can’t find anything in the manual. ;) My complicated workaround is to add the composites manually before the analyzation and change them accordingly. However, thats quite cumbersome.  Thank you and best regards, Gregor

Hi AllAs I simulate SMF 28 ultra fiber Return Loss, use NSC mode to simulate this item.fiber(source DLL in the fiber core) + polish angle 8degrees + Alens + Mirror.  Based on fiber NA 0.094 to set cladding and core, but seems not mach. How to set the fiber cladding and fiber core index/ size ?Based on fiber w0 =10.4um/2, but it not TIR in the fiber core. How to set Gussian source w0+position to match with fiber set?  

I recently read that Ansys is moving forward with AI tools, implementing Copilot in other software, but nothing about Zemax. Is there any research done about it? Any estimated date?

Any thoughts to the above?Imagine I’m creating some linear geometry, like a trough concentrator. I’d like to be able to optimize some of the geometry as defined in the x-z plane, but this geometry is just extruded some length along y.For a simple parabolic concentrator, the biconic surface works well, since one can define the y-radius to be 0 (infinite) and the x-conic to be -1. Set the rectangular flag and the extrusion length is defined by the max and min y-apertures. CPC rectangular is obviously intended for this purpose, but it requires a non-zero aperture so, as far as I can tell, one cannot generate “closed bottom” troughs...But what if the trough profile is something more complex? The help file for the extruded object suggests the extrusion can only be along the z axis, but maybe that is in the local coordinate system, and this limitation can be overcome by a rotation of the object? Then how to define the profile? The help file for the extruded object points to the user defined
