Radius operand in Merit Function?

Hi, it is possible to implement a radius operator in merit function? CVVA, CVLT, and CVGT do not work well with especially big lenses, and using RECI operator makes merit function harder to read

Distortion and Vignetting

Hi all, What is the correct way to analyze distortion in a system?At the settings in “Field Curv/Dist” plot there is an option to tick/untick “Ignore Vignetting Factors”.In several cases I noticed that I achieved quite different results between the options and I wonder how to relate to it.Which of the options represents a more credible result?Also, are there different cases that require to use each option individually or there is some general consent?If different cases require different method, then why and what should be the guideline? Thanks,Ziv

Basic concepts about fiber coupling

Hi all,I would like to ask some basic questions about the fiber coupling.In the zemax Help file, it is said that the total coupling efficiency is the product of the system efficiency and the receiver efficiency. Faster Ray Tracing Speed in 21.3.2?

Hi,I just upgraded to 21.3.2 from 21.3.1 and was pleased to see that the Performance Test has gone up. Using the double Gauss sample file I getwhere previously I got 240-250 million RSS. I don’t know if this is a change to OS itself, or the fact that I’m now on Windows 11 and have got all the latest updates to .NET etc. However, it’s good to see things speeding up, wherever the improvement comes from!Mark

How to check standard deviation of results from detector viewer

Export to CATPRODUCT or CATPART

Hi,I noticed that the latest version of OpticStudio has an option to export the system to a CATPART or CATPRODUCT. I have tried to export one of my systems, but I cannot read it with our version of CATIA, V5, Release 17, Service Pack 2, Build 27.What is the CATIA version used by OpticStudio for those export formats? Is there any way to change/select the CATIA version?Thank you for your help!

designed DOEs surface evaluation

Currently, I am doing simulation for DOEs (Diffractive optical elements) by using Binary2 surface and working on it. I also converted my surface phase (binary2 surface) to binary surface *.GDSII format (moreover *.bmp, *.dwg, *.dxf) for fabricating. However, we need to evaluate *.GDSII files ( or *.dwg, *.dxf, *.bmp), I plan to import these files into ZEMAX for their Wavefront evaluation.1. how can I import these files into ZEMAX (we already defined the fabrication file)2. Import the above files into ZEMAX for detailed evaluation, I know ZEMAX support for *.sat, *.STL, *.STEP,.... some kinds of CAD standard, but what I am concerned about is the resolution of the CAD file when imported into ZEMAX, is there any problem with this file?3. They can also be imported by DLL files, however, I have no experience with this kind of User-defined surface, can you please guide me on how to approach it, or a reference if available

Backward / Forward designs : TFT as "Tilted surface"

Hi,I have got question regarding backward/forward designs and the control of TFT Tilts.Here is the case :In backward design, TFT has two tilts : X Tilt and Y Tilt. In Forward design, TFT is usually compute as a “tilted” surface type. When TFT has only one tilt (Tilt X, we put as Y Tangent value tan(Tilt X )). Then backward and forward designs are the same (to check we do a superposition of both designs in Catia). However, when TFT has two tilts (Tilt X and Tilt Y), we put as Y Tangent value tan(Tilt X ) and as X Tangent value tan(-Tilt Y). Then backward and forward designs are differents (no matter the sign of X Tangent. I have tried to change the order of the coordinate break surface controlling the Tilt X and Tilt Y in the backward design, without success.Do you have a solution in order to have the same exact design for backward and forward ?Best regards,Nicolas

Getting interference pattern of laser beam homogenizer using lens array(fly eye's lens) in NSQ mode

Hi all.I want to get the interference pattern of the beam homogenizer using lens arrays and focusing lens in Non-sequential mode. When we use the beam homogenizer, we can observe the interference pattern on the illuminated field easIly.Gratefully, zemax offers an example file of the beam homogenizer which is illuminated by an ellipsoidal volume source.(https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005489121-Fly-s-eye-arrays-for-uniform-illumination-in-digital-projector-optics)However, in this example, the illuminated field is a very 'pretty' flat-top beam.Of course, probably because it is assumed as a non-coherent beam.If so, what if I want to simulate the beam homogenizing system with a real laser source that is coherent or partially coherent?How can I get the interference pattern in this example? Thanks in advance.

Fresnel lens optimization wizard issue

Hi, I am trying to calculate and optimize a Fresnel lens in NS. I have the following design, where I have made variable the radius of curvature and the first 2 coefficients on the even radial power in the lens editor: I have created a simple merit function to minimize the RMS so that it could calculate the values I made variable in order to keep a constant focal distance (that here I am assuming it is the distance of the detector from the lens):When I run the optimization nothing happens! Am I forgetting something in the wizard editor?Thank you to anybody will reply me!

How do I create a surface with two focuses?

Hi everyone! My name is Leonid, I am new to zemax and I have a following task:To use a model of the eye in zemax in sequential mode (found in the internet)  To model a contact lense which I should “wear” on the eye and to see what our eye would see if I wore this contact lense. The lower surface should be fixed and have a radius of cornea. The higher surface is arbitrary. Contact lense should focus rays on two distances from the source of light - 20mm and infinityHow can I make an optimisation for the higher surface of the contact lense. So, it would both at the distance of 20 mm and at infinity? Now I can only do optimisation for one focus values. How to do optimisation for multifocus system is not clear for me :(

Surface roughness analysis

Hi,I need to perform some basic surface roughness analysis and would like to have an approximate reference point. In my case the surface roughness needs to be expressed as Ra value, arithmetic mean of the profile height deviations. ISO Drawing for Biconic Zernike Lens

Hi everybody,i am trying to export an ISO Drawing of my lens, which consists of two biconic zernike elements. But the Drawing Element in the ISO graph shows the lens as two surfaces even i choose “show as: Singlet”. Is there any solution to get the lens drawing as shown in 3D layout or it is the zernike surface Bug/problem in Zemax? best regards,Ata

Lens material in Terahertz spectral range

Hello, I need to have a telecentric lens at terahertz spectral range (wavelength of 500 to 900 um). According to the documentations, the best material in this range is ZEONEX E48R. However, in ZEMAX, in the catalogue of E48R (and the whole ZEON.AGF catalogue materials) the maximum available wavelength is 1.6um. It is strange to me, since I have seen in numerous documentations that this specific material is used in ZEMAX in terahertz spectral ranges. I have two questions in this regard: Am I looking at the wrong catalogue or do I need to download or update this catalogue myself? If that, where should I find the related data or documentation for it? Also is there some other material that I could use instead of ZEONEX E48R that is supportive of terahertz spectral range? How can I find its related parameters to add for ZEMAX catalogues? Thanks a lot in advance for your time.

Surface tilt after reversing the path

Hi everyone,I encountered one problem using the reverse lens command for a tilted surface. The surface is tilted around both X and Y. After applying the reversing button, the surface cannot be realigned along its original path. The path is in the first pic. The collimated light is reflected by a tilted surface and at the image side there’s a mirror. Then I copied the elements in the following path and applied the reverse function but the path is not the original one.

Optimization with lenslet array

Hello everyone. I am interested in optimizing an optical system that contains a micro-lens array. I am aware of the user defined surface type and the "US_ARRAY.C" objects. I understand that this would help me build the optical system, but now I am interested in optimization. Since the MLA will generate multiple spots/wavefronts, how can I include this information into the Merit function?Also, in order to diagnose the performance of the system I would like to know the MTF for each lenslet. Is it possible to build an analysis plot that only considers rays from a specific region of the image?Thanks very much in advanced for any help.John.

Coating an STL object?

I am building a simple Sequential ray trace using a single Non-Sequential element (NSE). The NSE is an STL object generated in Blender. It is a simple thin rectangular plate (with a finite depth). The NSE is coated with  coated with a high-reflection coating for 633 nm.The source has two wavelengths (both enabled), 0.633 and 0.450 micrometers.  Given the coating on the NSE, I expect my ray trace to show most of the 0.633 micrometer rays reflected, and the 0.450 micrometer rays transmit through the plate. I’ve experienced this issue with other STL shapes generated in Blender.Why are the rays not splitting properly? The plate has a base glass material (FK3), and “Split NSC Rays” is turned on.

Sign of Conic Constant for OAP

Hello,   I am setting up a system with a diverging source (object space NA), a fold mirror, and then an OAP to collimate the light. In order to collimate the light, the radius on the OAP had to be positive, though I expected it to be negative, which I assume is due to the coordinate breaks and reference position. My question is if I want to model an OAP in this system, is the conic constant still -1 or is it +1?Thank you,Dan
