Radius of curvature in lens data editor not automatically thermally picked up

Dear community,I am very new to OpticStudio , and while a course is still pending within my company, I am trying to figure stuff out myself. So forgive me if my questions turn out to be very basic. I would very much appreciate it though, if any help is available. I am doing a thermal analysis for my optics design. My design is quite simple:I have an optical fiber in front of an aspheric plano-convex collimating lens:screenshot of lens data editorWhen I first set up my minimum and maximum temperatures, the multi-configuration editor opens. There you see the configurations that were automatically created. On each line a different operand is shown and its value for each configuration (i.e., column) is given. Simulating a multilayer mirror in OpticStudio

Hello,I am trying to simulate a mirror in non-sequential mode that has a wavelength- and an angle dependent reflectance as shown in the attached files.I have already tried to do this by defining a surface coating with the refractive indices of the two different elements but this has not worked out well.I would be thankful to know if this is possible in OpticStudio

Rotation of the human eye

I’m creating a modeling system in SC of the human eye with a lens in front of it. The rays of the system are coming from different positions in space. I’m trying to rotate the human eye with C.B but I’m ending up with two situations:The eye is rotating except for the retina Only the lens that located in front of the eye is rotatingI even try to add a dummy surface after the retina but it wasn’t helpfulHow can I rotate only the eye?

Rays don't go through two surfaces

Hi everyone! First of all, I want to warn you that english is my second language and I am new to zemax. So, I am sorry just in case :)I have a task to model a bifocal contact lense which can focus light on infinity and on 20mm distance.Also I have a zemax model of the eye (found in the internet). So, I have to “wear” this contact lense on an “eye” and to model what eye would see, if a real human used this contact lense.Contact lense looks like: I decided to model a contact lense by splitting it into two surfaces: “contact lense” and “microlense”.My problem is that rays go through the microlense only. (only in the center they actually “go inside the eye”). However, I want all rays to go through all surfaces, not only rays in the middle: I would be very happy if you explained me this in details since zemax is something I am using for the first time :)

How to solve the problem of graphic issue with Optic Studio 21.3?

Does anybody know how to solve the graphic related issue with OpticStudio 21.3?I have installed this version and was using weeks but, recently it shows very unusual action.When the cursor moves, the menu bar, tool bar, and the Lens Data table erases. Also, the small windows zoom up and it maintains or returns when the cursor moves out.I have captured the and attached.Please let me know the way to fix this problem.I have tried to re-install the problem but the problem wouldn’t disappear. Geometric MTF in Tolerance tab producing different values than in Analyze?

Hello. I’m new to a lot of features of OpticStudio, including tolerancing, and I have a question that likely stems from my lack of understanding of what the program is doing. In the Tolerancing user interface → Criterion tab, when in Inverse Limit mode, there is a button labeled “Check” that becomes available. I was under the impression that this checks the nominal value of the specified criterion. In this screenshot I have it set up to evaluate the geometric MTF at a spatial frequency of 8 cycles per mm (I assume those are the units?), and after clicking the “Check” button I get a value of 0.087. There is no compensation in the system.Shouldn’t this value then be the same as (or at least close to) what the geometric MTF in the Analyze tab would provide? In the screenshot below it’s clear that the average for all fields at 8 cycles per mm is well above 0.087.Am I misunderstanding what the “Check” button is doing? Thanks for your time!

How to make 3D layout draw a cylinder with tilted back face and export it to CAD STEP?

A user is asking how to make 3D layout draw properly a cylinder with tilted back face and subsequently export this part to CAD STEP file. When I tried using Coordinate break to tilt the back face, the layout appears funny and the CAD STEP part exported follows the layout appearance, which is not the right angle circular cylinder the user expected.  In this case, there are two ways to fix this: 1. Instead of using Coordinate Break surface to tilt the back face, use Tilted surface type instead.  2. Alternatively, you can also apply Elliptical Aperture on both the front and the back face of this part. On the front face, the Elliptical aperture will have the same X and Y radius, while on the back face, the Elliptical Aperture X radius will remain the same as that of the front face X radius, while Y radius needs to be set to 'Y_radius_front face / Cos(tilt X angle)'.  Now if you run CAD export on this part, you'll see a nice right angle circular cylinder.&nbs

CRVT operand: different values in multi-configuration editor and lens data editor

Dear community,I have a question about the CRVT operand. First a bit of background:I have a simple system: an optical fiber in front of a collimating lens:Fig.1 :Optical fiber in front of collimating lensI am trying to do a thermal analysis. When the min and max temperature are added under (Sytem → Make thermal), the multi-configuration editor opens and a whole list of operands are shown. One of them is CVRT: Fig.2: Snapshot multi-configuration editor. Line 11 shows CVRT value for surface 3, for the different configurations (columns). Column 2 is the default configuration of T = 20 degrees celsius. I noticed that it is not the same value as what I see for surface 3 in the lens data editor: Fig. 3: Here, for surface 3, the curvature value is -6.82901 for the current active configuration. Whereas in the multi-configuration CRVT is -0.14643 (line 11, see figure 2) When I check the definition of CRVT I read: “If the multi-configuration operand is a CRVT, then the curvature of that surface

Creating narrowband filters in NSC using transmission spectra

I am looking to create a narrow band filters in NSC mode. They are roughly a 850 nm centre wavelength with a +/- 40 nm spread (cut on at 820 nm , cut off at 900 nm).How can I define this in zemax - is it a custom coating? Or is there a simple way to do this?

Binary 2 phase plot

Hi,I have a stub containing only one Binary2 surface. If I go to (Analyze | Surface | Phase) the plot is empty. The respective “Sag” plot shows the curvature. Why is that? If I look at the following post I would expect the phase plot to work. Where is my mistake?Cheers

Airy Disk on Camera Obscura does not work

I was trying to model a simple camera obscura in sequential mode.I wanted to check the airy disk depending on the size of the pinhole. The pinhole was simply defined by the semi diameter of the stop surface.The simulation worked correct but I became a bit confused since the airy disk was not affected when I changed the distance between stop surface and image plane.The only distance which affected the size of the airy disk was the distance between object and image plane which doesn’t make sense.Thanks for your help!

How to keep the aperture unchanged when using a tilted surface?

Hi,I would like to simulate that light travels through a single mode fiber, and a coreless fiber, and the end of the coreless fiber is a tilted flat surface, so the light will be reflected because of total internal reflection or reflective coating. My problem is that I can not keep the aperture constant (usually the cladding of SMF and my coreless fiber is 125um) because of the titled surface, as shown below. Is there any method that is able to keep the diameter consistent (125um) ? Thank you! Oliver

Physical Optics (POP) and Diffraction

Hello, everyone. I tried to use a single lens to focus the collimated ray to a single point. When I use FFT PSF analysis, I get peak with diffraction. However, when I use POP, I only can see peak without diffraction. I expected to obtain a peak with diffraction by using POP. What is the difference between FFT PSF analysis and POP. Optical design of omnidirectional sensor optics

HiIn optical design of Catadioptric System in CMOS camera optics. I have convex mirror and plane mirror as primary and secondary surfaces. So incoming rays will diverge when I will put on axis object at infinity. But I need them to come at plane mirror and then to CMOS optics. Vertical FOV and HFOV is given in degree and CMOS optics is given. How I can set object, aperture and field parameters for optical design in OpticStudio. I am attaching model of design. Please comment.

Message content disappears if attachment hasn't finished uploading

Hi everyone, I noticed that when I submit a reply with an attachment, and I don’t leave enough time for the attachment to upload, I get a message at the top of my browser saying the attachment wasn’t fully uploaded, and my message content is erased completely. The only thing that saved me is that by pressing Ctrl + Z in the message description, I could get it back. Then, all I needed to do is wait for a little longer, and then submit my message.Just wanted to make people aware of this issue, are you also experiencing this problem?Take care, David

How to model a diffuse surface?

To model a diffuse surface in OpticStudio, you need to add a Lambertian scatter profile to the face of the object. Lambertian scattering will give the rays an equal probability of scattering anywhere in the unit circle - most diffuse surfaces are nearly Lambertian. The Lambertian scatter profile can be entered under the 'Coat/Scatter' tab in the 'Object Properties' of the object you would like to make diffuse.  Make sure you choose the correct 'Face' that you would like the scatter profile applied to. The 'Number of Rays' effects how many scatter rays will be generated.  The scatter fraction will be the amount of power from an incident ray gets transmitted into scattered refelction/transmission vs. specular reflection/transmission. For example, if the scatter fraction is 1, the specular ray will receive zero energy and will no longer be traced; and all the energy will be divided equally among the scattered rays. If the frac
