Import from Lumerical: effective mode index not taken into account

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to propagate a waveguide mode calculated in Lumerical MODE through a lens system in air in OpticStudio. I use the POP functionallity to import the Lumerical mode into OpticStudio. However, it seems that the effective index of the mode is not taken into account, and therefore there’s no refraction at the waveguide-air interface. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @jovana,

In order for POP beam to see glass/air interface and refract, you will need to add a glass name to the Material cell on the glass surface. If you know the effective index of the mode, you could try entering a Model glass specified directly using an index value. You can then try launching this beam ZBF file from inside the glass to see if it refracts at the glass/air interface.
