I have use Image simulation tool to evaluate the image quality of my setup. There are different parameters in its setting, and I wonder what the realistic values of this parameter are. In attachment I specified some of these parameters affecting the simulation results, such as “Oversampling”, “Pupil/Image Sampling, and “PSF-X/Y Points.   I really appreciate in advanced if someone can assist me regarding the correct values of aforementioned parameters.

Hello, my problem is the following:I would like to create a spherical surface (z=r-sqrt(r^2-(x2.^2)-(y2.^2))) using grid sag. I am currently doing an optical experiment with wavefront sensor and got a wavefront map from a lens that we unknow its surface properties. We are trying to input the wavefront map to ZEMAX and translate them to optical infromation like the focal length, Sedial abberation. Is there a way to solve?

Some of the tutorials in the Knowledgebase reference a thing called a "dummy surface" but I don't see that as an option under surface types in Sequential mode. What exactly is it? When would I use it?

Recovered file acts same way.I tried to get back to older version, but it can’t open files, which are made in new version.I am attaching simple file that makes problems.

Dear all,I am trying to obtain the PSF of an imaging system, which consists of an objective lens, a doublet lens, and a reflecting surface. The reflective surface and lenses for forming an image on an image plane were delineated in non-sequential mode, but the objective and doublet were delineated sequentially, so I'm working in mixed mode. My first attempt at evaluating the system is to use the FFTPSF, but I only get the message “Sampling too low, data inaccurate!”. After modifying the sampling and the Image Delta, I still get the same results. Thus, I think it may be an issue with the mixed-mode system that cannot calculate the wavefront. My original plan was to convert all components to sequential, then get the PSF, but they did not work properly once I converted them.  I would be happy if anyone could come and discuss the issue. Kind regards,Amir

My aim is to see the exact numbers that is defined by Field Editor field angle with the MFE using an appropriate operand. Although I tried a couple of them, on the MFE I couldn't manage to read the same value of angle in degrees as defined in Field Data Editor. Samples->Sequential->Objectives->Double Gauss 28 degree fieldCan you please comment on this?Regards,

I’m afraid, I don’t have sufficient time to gain enough skills on the program although I already did many of the tutorials.During my literature research, I found out, that a pair of mirror-symmetric meniscus lenses should solve my problem. I have a simple lens system that has a fixed distance between a mechanical measurement datum and the sensor. A doublet + 2 windows is designed to accommodate object positions (working length) from 6 to -2 diopters when adjusted within its mechanical travel limits. Layout above is shown at 6 diopters.I have large data set of measurements where the accommodation is shifted 0.5 diopters (5.5 to -2.5) from what is predicted by the Optics Studio model. I’ve checked with multiple sensors, a different focus lens with same focal length, and double checked all the mechanical dimensions. The focus travel limit position error for the 0.5 diopter shift is on the order of 0.010” and my measurement confidence is ~+/- 0.001”.I’ve considered error from wavelength, focus criteria, dimensional measurements.Is there any fundamental reason I shouldn’t expect better agreement between the model and measurements?Any thoughts would be appreciated!Thank you,John

I want to simulate stray light effects with a barrel in OpticsStudio non sequential. I’m not an expert with scatter profiles, and looking for a library of some common generic mechanical parts like raw aluminum and black anodized aluminum.I looked in the ‘IS Scatter Catalog’ under generic, but only see 2 options.I realized there is lot of complexity to the details, but it seems like OpticsBuilder has some simple canned choices like ‘Black Anodized’.Is there a way to access those libraries in OpticsStudio? Dear Experts,in order to assess a long distance propagation of a collimated laser beam in dependence of the quality of the optical system, I have used a POP propagation through my optical system (several spherical and aspherical lenses with a SMF source). I have turned my system to an afocal system.Having the tolerances of my lenses, I perform a tolerance analysis with 20 Monte-Carlo runs. My only compensator is the distance between the SMF fiber and the first lens collimating this beam (with the NA of the fiber).Here the output of the POP cross-section overlay graph:What I find interesting is that there are two distinct sets (set A and B) of curves. These sets seem to have a different scaling, as they have different x-ranges (ranges A and B).I can’t imagine that there is an automatic rescaling. I have turned any “Re-Compute Pilot Beam Parameters” off, and also the “auto resample” (which probably would not do a resample during the different runs, would they?).This is the only resample

Hi, I am setting up a polarising plate beam splitter to look at its different excitation at 780nm. I have defined a coating reflections and transmission in the table at 45 and 27.9(refracted angle). If i include scattering 0.01%, the NSC 3D layout stops showing the reflected beam from one surface whereas the shaded model shows it. Also, the detector shows the maxima for rays which should have less power as opposed to main beam.I have attached the model. Please check. Another thing i wanted to ask was how can i include polarisation to the source. And specifically measure the power from individual beams at detector stop. Regards,Saurabh

Dear Zemax team, I am calculating the Diffraction Encircle Energy (DEE) in my multi-configuration file, which has 42 configurations. I want to extract the data of DEE for each configuration, and plot all of them in the same chart. What I did for now are copy, paste, and then plot all the data within an Excel spreadsheet. It cost a lot of time. Below is one figure I did for one wavelength, and I have more wavelengths and more FOVs.  I am wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions to make this calculation automaticlly. Thanks ahead! 

Dear Experts,in order to get an exact understanding of POP, I have stripped down a simulation to purely a POP simulation, i.e. without any optical element but a free-space propagation (Gaussian beam diffraction) over 1000m:My  beam definition isMy beam waist is 21mm. Exploring that with the Beam File Viewer, this is a 21mm radius at 1/e². However, in the help file I find  where w_0y (omega) should be the same as Waist X?! According to these formulas this would be a 1/e radius (not squared), if I do the math right. Maybe w_0y is not equal to Waist X? According to Teich/Saleh a 21mm 1/e² radius Gaussian beam should result in a divergence theta of (omega_0 is the 1/e² radius)i.e. my beam should have a radius of 23.5mm after 1000m propagation.Reading from the cross section in the image plane, I get around 31mm at 1/e², so a difference of 7.5mm to the expected 23.5mm.It would be great to get a hint, if my modelling of such a minimal system, i.e. only the Gaussian beam diffraction, is correc

Dear Sir/Madam,Today I found very Intresting error, I have used 29 lumens LED, and at detector I was getting 29.6589 lumen, In my setup, LED, Detector (Detector Rectangle), and one more object is there after detector. Separation between LED to detector is 0.001mm, Detector to next object 0.001mm. In this setup when I have done the ray trace I found 29.6589 lumen on detector, While LED is of 29 lumen. This error might coming because of the reflection form the next object and hitting the detector back, so detector is showing some higher value! To eliminate this reflection I had made the detector as absorbing surface, but still detector is showing power than actual LED power.Can you please explain me why this is happening? (Detector is having the same size as LED (3 X 1.4 mm), also I have enabled the “Front only” option in “Detector Rectangle” row) Thankyou.

Dear Sir/ma'am,Night vision Device consist of three major assembly, Objective, II Tube and Eyepiece.Distortion analysis done at objective and eyepiece design level in Zemax. And I found the distortion of II Tube by Testing.But, I am unable to analyze the Distortion at system level.Please help me to find/ analysis the distortion at system level.Also, If you have any research paper on it please share.It is great help for me.Thanks & RegardsGirish

I want to use compound lenses. So I first started with a simple setup to see how this is working at all.The compound lenses have a flat back and a “toroidal surface odd asphere” as front. A tilted spherical toroidal would do je job, but I did not find an easy way to do that so I use the ^1-coefficient to add wedge.Two problems. Both compound lenses do not trace any ray through the system. Only Error rays are produced The wedge of surf 2 is removed when used for lens 2 (surf 1 and lens 1 don’t show that)Obviously something is seriously wrong. A made an example file with five configurations. Configs 1-4 put a beam onto the surfaces and lenses subsequently. Config 5 moving making a clear path for the beams.   Can anyone give a hint what I am doing wrong?

Hello, this is my first post! I am hoping someone can help me understand what I might be doing wrong. In my first attempt, I tried to create a plano-convex (pcx) lens with an entrance pupil diameter (EPD) of 5 mm and an f-number of 1.0.I specified an EPD aperture type and then set its value to 5 mm. I then set the semi-diameters of the first and second surfaces to half the EPD value, and the thickness of the third surface to 5 mm. My thought being that this will give me an f/1 system (see prescription below).pcx lens prescriptionHowever, from the image below, you can see that the marginal ray is being “clipped.”pcx lens layoutI verified this by running a single ray trace and sure enough the Real Ray Trace Data for surface 3 says, “Ray terminated, TIR at surface 3.” Also, the Image Space F/#, Paraxial Working F/#, and the Working F/# all report 0.95893. I tried to increase the radius value, in very small increments, and did notice the F/# value increasing slightly, but it never goes abo
