Hello, I've been working on a project where I need to include a rectangular mirror type surface in nonsequential mode of OpticStudio. I wanted to choose a coating for it but unfortunately, it seems that I can only do that for a standard lens. However, the object I am dealing with is rectangular shaped and when using the 'Rectangle' object type, I cannot add any coatings to it. I was wondering if there was another object type that could be a rectangle and can have a coating on it? Thanks!

Hi guys. Have a good day. I am a freshman using Zemax and I am having trouble with diochoric beam splitter simulation. I am making a diochoric for both infrared light and visible light. When i added a lens on the refractive part, the same lens appear in the refractive part. It can not be controlled separately. Is there any way to handle it? Secondly, Is it possible to simulate the infrared image on Zemax? By changing wavelength or increase the temperature or some special module? I perform a scattering analysis of my system in non-sequential mode, where I am interested in the scattered light (not the main beam) on a detector. The scattered light on the detector has a peak in the middle and drops off to the detector edges. I would like to better understand this irradiance distribution on the detector. In sequential mode I would use the Encircled Energy Analysis. Is there anything similar in non-sequential mode? My first idea was to use a mixed sequential/non-sequential system, but this does not seem to allow scattering analysis. Many thanks  

I have a very simple model that I want to completely understand, but seem to be having an issue with the sign of the electric field of the source ray. Suppose I launch a single ray, with a YTilt of 10 deg and polarization of Jx=Jy=1 using the Z-axis as my polarization reference.  Then my initial K vector will be [x0.139173, y0, z0.990268].   According to the knowledgebase article (https://my.zemax.com/en-US/Knowledge-Base/kb-article/?ka=KA-01336#TypesPolarizationDependentMedia) , my S and P vectors are given by S = k x Z = [x0, y(-0.139173), z0] P = k x S = [x0.137818, y0, z(-0.019379)] Now I would like to know precisely how S and P are converted to my initial electric field, E, which is not explicitly described by the aforementioned article.  My thought is to normalize each polarization vector by their magnitude, Sn = S / |S| = [x0, y(-1), z0] Pn = P / |P| = [x0.990268, y0, z(-0.139173)], then to scale these normalized quanities by the relative Jx/Jy valu

Hi, I need help creating a custom non-cirular lens shape in Zemax from a CAD import or a point cloud file that defines points on the perimeter of the lens. Is this possible, or is there another method? The lens shape was originally created in Solidworks and is not defined by any mathematical formula, freeform. Appreciate your help!

Why does OpticStudio label results for Luminous Intensity using units of Lumens/Steradian when you set the Source Units to Lumens?  I don't know anyone or any specification that wouldn't use Candela as the title for the units of Luminous Intensity if working with Photometric units.  On graphs of Luminous Intensity from the analysis of Polar Detectors I always have to change the Y axis title to Candela but can't change the Peak Intensity value unit which is always labelled as Lumens/Steradian.  I have to send these graphs out to customers who have specifications that are always given in Candela and not all of them are technically aware that Lumens/Steradian is the same as Candela. Please can you at least give users the opportunity to change the Peak Intensity units so that the match the Y axis title.  Even better Candela should be the default Luminous Intensity unit and if users want to revert to Lumens/Steradian they sh

I have collimated light coming in to a Diffraction Grating (object material set to mirror). It is oriented at Lithrow angle such that green (for example) reflects right back along the optical axis. The Pitch axis is set to my lithrow angle. In this configuration I should be able to Yaw the grating, steering the rays like a mirror. However, there are 2 issues 1) If my yaw angle is 4 deg, for example, it does not steer by 8 degrees as expected 2) My 'blue' and 'red' wavelengths rotate around the 'green' wavelength as I yaw. If I 'clock' the grating (z rotation) then I can derotate the rotation. For some reason, in order to steer, unclocked by 8 degrees, instead of a yaw of 4, I need a yaw of like 2.5, and a clock of 2.5 as well. Has anyone experienced something similar. This is odd behavior. The yaw should simply steer it like a mirror, if the the grating lines are oriented in the pitch axis   Thank you

I cannot get the Tilt About X or Y to insert new tilt angle.  And I would like to read from a .txt to do the same but cannot get the write method to initially set or change the Tilt About X - here is some of my code. Hi all Surface slope error is considered by lens manufacturer as an essential specification for asphere production. Unfortunately Zemax doesn't still allow directy tolerancing on slope error and it is suggested that user should write a macro to do it. So, here is my question: Does somebody have such a macro that he/she would be so kind to share?  Thank you! Renaud

Hello, I have received a sag error measurement from a manufacturer for an asphere. I'd like to model the system performance with this sag error in Zemax by adding the sag error to the nominal asphere surface sag. What is the best way to take the curve in the left of the image and create a surface in Zemax that models this profile? In other words, I'd like to add the sag of these two curves shown below and create a surface in Zemax. It is okay to assume the error is rotational symmetric. Thanks, Jon

Hi everyone, I need your kindness help for some problem about the beam profile in my system. I have two questions about the state of the beam. I have made the optical system as shown in the picture below. 　 1)By setting the apodization type only to Gaussian, can I assume that the beam profile in my system is a Gaussian beam?   I have use POP to create the gaussian beam as our laser source as shown in picture below. And this shows that my system is in Gaussian distribution. But, instead of use POP to setting the Gaussian beam, can I just setting the aperture type in system explorer as mention above to describe my system is in Gaussian beam?   2)For now, I am using Grid Phase in Surface Type and changing the state of beam condition by importing DAT file. Instead of using Grid Phase or Grid Sag, is there any other way to change the beam condition?   If anyone can help me in order to solve the problems, I really appreciate for your kindness. Hi support team, In Sequential example 2 in the article 'Simulating diffraction efficiency of a volume holographic grating using Kogelnik’s method', you refer to Hologram Waveguide as: It says that, the material on both sides of the hologram during construction is acrylic.
