I am developing a custom tolerancing script using ZOS-API. I would like to perturb the Index of refraction and Abbe values within a certain range. How can I do that in Python ZOS commands? I could not find any reference to it in the ZOS syntax help documentation.Thanks - A

I would like to use the Tolerancing feature to get a sensitivity analysis for a mirror's position/rotation. Using TE-DX/DY/TX/TY/TZ I got results for the RMS Spot Radius that I could replicate with the RMS vs. Field Analysis. For TTHI I tried two approaches: 1) I placed a coordinate break before the mirror (n) and one after the mirror. The trailing coordinate break has a return solve to n. In the TDE I created an operand as follows: TTHI (n-1) (n-1) 0.00 -0.02 0.02 2) I applied  the TTHI directly to the mirror. Both approaches resulted in different RMS Spot Radii that I could not replicate with the RMS vs. Field Analysis. How do I use TTHI to tolerance the mirror's z-coordinate?

Hello everyone out there,I use a python script and successfully execute some commands:open a zmx file in the back ground, add/change operands in the merit function, (local) optimization and finally i save the zmx file. Hi.I am working on an optical system that should be attached to a camera (Figure 1). The system adds severe field curvature to the generated images. To fix the curvature I tried the method described in the 14th chapter of the book “Introduction to lens design with practical Zemax examples”, which gives an equation to calculate the radius of a field flattener given the material and the Petzval Radius of the system. In this case, Petzval radius = -0.7948. The field flattener radius should have a radius of -0.35mm (Considering the material to be N-SF11), which I guess is impossible to be fabricated. In addition, it would be convenient if this problem could be solved using off-the-shelf lenses so I tried simulating with the most similar lens I found from Edmund Optics, R = -4.71 mm, plano-concave (Figure 2). But the Petzval radius did not change much (New Petzval radius = -0.8467). Could I add more than one field flattener in the system near the field lenses? Does the solution from the boo

Please can someone at Zemax stop Universal Plots doing an unnecessary recalculation when you switch between the Graph tab and the Text tab.  Universal Plots are used for carrying out multiple calculations and some of mine take a long time to generate.  Zemax shouldn’t need to do a recalculation to show you the values it used to generate the graph when you select the Text tab, after all nothing has changed.  It is just a waste of my time waiting 15 minutes or more just to access the data values.

Hello Everyone, Is there any literature or tutorial on how to set up a parameter optimization in OpticStudio with OptiSlang?When I search on the internet, I find a pdf but clicking on it redirects to the ANSYS intoduction website.Any suggestion is appreciated. What I am trying to do is run FEM simulations to evaluate structural changes in an objective and then I would try to replicate that movement in the lens by a parametric study through OptiSlang to evaluate the impact of lens movements on optical performance in OpticStudio. Best regards,Amit

I have a rectangular object that I want to have a variable coating on one of its faces. The coating should be a dichroic coating on part of the face (say 2/3 of one rectangle) and no coating at all on the remaining 1/3.I would also need to update this coating (e.g., change the coated area and coating parameters) and object through ZOS-API, so a dynamic solution would be appreciated.Thanks!

I am trying to put together a system of lenses that has a probe with a 2 mm diameter. The system has a probe with an objective and a relay and a set of lenses with a larger diameter that function as a microscope, magnifying the image generated by the objective. The attached Figure 1 gives a rough description of the system. The problem is that the generated useful image is too small, as seen in Figure 2. I thought that this problem would be solved by selecting appropriate field lenses that would image the exit pupil of the previous lenses set onto the entrance pupil of the next, but it seems it is not to be the cause of the issue. I calculated (paraxially) the focal length of the field lenses considering the positions of the entrance and exit pupils and tried a few field lenses based on that result with no success. What can be done to increase the size of the useful image? Ideally, the size of the useful image should be as marked with a red circle in Figure 2.   

Hello I am trying to use the CODA operand in a MeritFunction to evaluate changes in phase between Ex and Ey (i.e., Pxy)  due to tolerance errors. During the tolerance application there are situations where vignetting occurs but the CODA operand (Data 110) ignores the vignetting and returns values as if there is no  vignetting.  Is there a way to get CODA to not report values from vignetted portions of the Pupil? These unwanted "Vignetted" values affect the value that the Merit Function returns.

Hello, I have a very simple (2 lens, intermediate focus) afocal system, and I am interested to analyze the exit pupil wavefront error and shape (as off-axis fields become increasingly distorted, ~10% compression in one axis for a 1 deg field angle). The Analyze→ Wavefront→ Wavefront Map is normalized to +/-1 relative units in both x and y axis (checking the ‘Use Exit Pupil Shape’ box doesn’t change this); I’d like to see this in the form that appears in the Footprint Diagram. In essence, I’d like to convert relative units to absolute (e.g. mm) units. Is there an easy way to do this? Should I write a script calling REAX and REAY to convert relative to absolute? Just installed OpticsStudio and I confirm that the application launches and works. However, I see several dialogs that suggest one or more directories were not built at the time of install.To be very specific, I am running MacOS 12.3.1 and Parallels virtualized Windows 11 for ARM.When I open OpticsStudio, the first dialog reads:"To complete the OpticsStudio installation, data files must be copied to your user data folder."Once the program launches to the OpticsStudio workspace, I am greeted by individual dialogs. I have single license and i want to add another colleague (myself ) to open the software from another PC. I can't do so as there is no "Add colleage" tab. Is there any way to do so? I have installed zemax on my laptop and it crashed so i want to continue working with the software on a new PC 

Hi all, I have a question about simulating the diffraction efficiency of holographic in-coupler for AR waveguide. I would like to mimic what Bernard Kress had did for the figure 19 (also attached below) in his paper ‘Waveguide combiners for mixed reality headsets: a nanophotonics design perspective’. He said the relfection HOE coupler with mean index 1.53, index modulation 0.03, thickness 16um, wavelength 550nm, and the construction angle 0 deg and 50 deg is able to achieve up to 17 deg (FWHM) angular bandwidth. However, when I try to reproduce this result in Zemax, I found it is only about 5 deg. I also attached the Zemax file below. I would appreciate if anyone could help me to vefiry this discrepancy. Hello everyone, This is my first time posting so I will do my best to communicate this effectively. I have an assembly exported from Solidworks as a STEP file (exploded) and I am looking to rotate an object on its own axis within the assembly. When I attempt to utilize the Tilt parameters the object makes a large translation in space as well as rotates, as if orbiting a center point a considerable distance away (perhaps the origin of the assembly). I have looked to un-reference the part to the assembly and attempt to rotate it, but it still continues to translate it considerable distances seemingly unaffected.  This does not seem to be a unique problem to myself, and I have seen solutions suggested to similar issues on here that one needs to introduce a dummy object to reference the desired part to. However since the assembly does not note the coordinates of each of its parts (all parts are listed as (0,0,0) as seems to be the standard), determining how to place the dummy object has be

Hi,I am having issues with the resulting CAD model of my optical design. I have created a generic example below to reproduce my problem. I use the below parameters. (using software V20.3)    The full design is below, 3 lenses and 2 prisms, including some negative distances/thicknesses as I am changing the coordinates with the mirrors.  Zemax 3D/Shaded model Zemax lLens data  However, when opening the CAD model , there are errors:The “negative” surfaces don’t show (no lens in the middle and one surface of each prism missing). How can I fix this?ZEMAX Object Explorer CREO (assembly mode)    Furthermore, in “part” mode in Creo, all the lenses are squashed together in a single place (and still no negative ones). How can I fix this? CREO (part mode) I can share the Zemax file if you need, but I dont think I am doing something too complicated? I’m trying to import a Zygo generated WFE (phase -- saved as a .DAT file) file provided by a vendor as a grid phase surface. When I select the file and click “import” I get the error “Grid files must have at least 5 rows and 5 columns.” The file appears to be a binary metropro dat format, it’s unclear how to reformat the data to make it more friendly for import. I am using version 21.2.2 Premium. Is there a way to import these files or convert them such that they can be imported?

Perhaps it is necessary to use a macro to create a vertical aberration drawing macro that corresponds to the upper and lower pupil coordinates. If there is another method, or the flow (hint) of this method, could you tell me? Thank you.
