Hello, I've been working on a project where I need to include a rectangular mirror type surface in nonsequential mode of OpticStudio. I wanted to choose a coating for it but unfortunately, it seems that I can only do that for a standard lens. However, the object I am dealing with is rectangular shaped and when using the 'Rectangle' object type, I cannot add any coatings to it. I was wondering if there was another object type that could be a rectangle and can have a coating on it? Thanks!

Good afternoon, I have some questions regarding the export of Zemax non-sequential mode ray trace into Catia. To trace rays, I use Analyse>Ray Trace with 10millions layout rays. At the end, I have a .zrd file. Is it possible to directly convert this file into a file readable by Catia ? Or is it possible to export directly the design with the layout into a .stp file or again a file readalbe by Catia ? I haven’t used the Skew Gaussian feature in Optic Studio (sequential mode) in a long time, but I have a memory that the input beam parameters once included the M^2 values for the Gaussian, and some formulation about the Embedded Gaussian. Did you remove these features? Now the inputs are: Wx, Wy, Surf to Waist, wave, field, start, end [implies possible ellipticity, but zero astigmatism] Whereas more generally one would like to see Wx, M^2x, surf to Xwaist, wave, field, start, end And Wy, M^2y, surf to Ywaist, wave, field, start, end So that the input could have both astigmatism and ellipticity and non-ideal M^2 for the inputs and outputs both. Please tell me if my memory is faulty. I remember that the Embedded Gaussian definition was a little tricky, and I imagine a lot of customers got confused on this point. So maybe you pulled it? I can think of some workarounds with either the Merit Function editor or a macro, but having more fields in the input dialog box would be simpler st

In NSC, how do you rotate a mirror about a tilted axis? For example, if the orange square below is my mirror in X-Y view, I would like to rotate it by 10 degrees along the axis marked by the dotted line.

Hello,   Why Number of rays shown on NSC shaded model depends on # of Analysis rays? I’m using “Source diode” source and when I’m increasing the “# Analysis rays” the rays that shown at Shaded model disappear, After ray trace with large nuber of analysis rays some detectors shows 0 hits but at Layout when # Analysis rays = 0 I can see a lot of rays that hit the these detectors. Why “# Analysis rays” have influence on # of rays at Layout? It should be defined by # “Layout rays”, I’m wrong? I have last version of Optic Studio.   Thank you, Yefim.  

Dear Zemax Team, I have converted a diffraction-limited optical system from sequential to non sequential mode finding that my input fields have been converted into source ellipse sources with about 1e-6 mm X,Y half width. The conversion works fine, but I would need to evaluate the effect of using and extented source (a pinhole) in the non seq mode instead of the diffraction-limited one. I was naivily setting the X,Y half width tabs of the source ellipse to a fraction mm up to 1 mm, but when I ray trace basically the PSF disappears. I did this check on object n° 43 configuration 2. Is there clever a way to represent properly an extended source for this purpouse? Hi guys. Have a good day. I am a freshman using Zemax and I am having trouble with diochoric beam splitter simulation. I am making a diochoric for both infrared light and visible light. When i added a lens on the refractive part, the same lens appear in the refractive part. It can not be controlled separately. Is there any way to handle it? Secondly, Is it possible to simulate the infrared image on Zemax? By changing wavelength or increase the temperature or some special module? How to calculate the slope of the surface of any element in angle with respect to the image plane? I am using an aspheric surface for lens design and I need to constrain lens shape for some angle due to manufacturability issues. I noticed that Zemax has DSLP operand but it is giving in lens units and information is not enough to understand how it works. Can you please tell me any special operand for this?

I perform a scattering analysis of my system in non-sequential mode, where I am interested in the scattered light (not the main beam) on a detector. The scattered light on the detector has a peak in the middle and drops off to the detector edges. I would like to better understand this irradiance distribution on the detector. In sequential mode I would use the Encircled Energy Analysis. Is there anything similar in non-sequential mode? My first idea was to use a mixed sequential/non-sequential system, but this does not seem to allow scattering analysis. Many thanks  

I have a very simple model that I want to completely understand, but seem to be having an issue with the sign of the electric field of the source ray. Suppose I launch a single ray, with a YTilt of 10 deg and polarization of Jx=Jy=1 using the Z-axis as my polarization reference.  Then my initial K vector will be [x0.139173, y0, z0.990268].   According to the knowledgebase article (https://my.zemax.com/en-US/Knowledge-Base/kb-article/?ka=KA-01336#TypesPolarizationDependentMedia) , my S and P vectors are given by S = k x Z = [x0, y(-0.139173), z0] P = k x S = [x0.137818, y0, z(-0.019379)] Now I would like to know precisely how S and P are converted to my initial electric field, E, which is not explicitly described by the aforementioned article.  My thought is to normalize each polarization vector by their magnitude, Sn = S / |S| = [x0, y(-1), z0] Pn = P / |P| = [x0.990268, y0, z(-0.139173)], then to scale these normalized quanities by the relative Jx/Jy valu

Dear Zemax team, I would need to model a single mode fiber with a 9 micron core and a NA 0.22 in a non sequential design. I envisioned to use a source Gaussian with beam size of 4.5e-3 mm, but I cannot understand the meaning of the Position parameter and I cannot figure out to which value I should set it in order to reproduce a 0.22 beam. Hi, I need help creating a custom non-cirular lens shape in Zemax from a CAD import or a point cloud file that defines points on the perimeter of the lens. Is this possible, or is there another method? The lens shape was originally created in Solidworks and is not defined by any mathematical formula, freeform. Appreciate your help!

Symptom: I ran into a problem when trying the set LDE cell-values for user-defined surfaces with the python ZOS-API. Setting/getting the values (IntegerValue as much as DoubleValue) caused an error: pywintypes.com_error: (-2147352567, 'Exception occurred.', (0, 'Zemax', 'Expected Double, got 'String'', None, 0, -2147024809), None) Cause: I could trace back the error to the entries '-' for the 'Chip Zone' and 'Mech Semi-Dia' columns: It seems like an update of these two is triggerred  after setting (or getting) a value in the respective LDE row. This update does not tolerate the string-type entry '-'. I looked through several UDS examples and the issue appears the same. Limited workaround: I found that setting/getting the desired LDE values for the UDS indirectly via the a configuration and the MCE is still possible -- so this can be a workaround for me at the moment. But I can think about systems, where I would not want to include the respective parameters

Why does OpticStudio label results for Luminous Intensity using units of Lumens/Steradian when you set the Source Units to Lumens?  I don't know anyone or any specification that wouldn't use Candela as the title for the units of Luminous Intensity if working with Photometric units.  On graphs of Luminous Intensity from the analysis of Polar Detectors I always have to change the Y axis title to Candela but can't change the Peak Intensity value unit which is always labelled as Lumens/Steradian.  I have to send these graphs out to customers who have specifications that are always given in Candela and not all of them are technically aware that Lumens/Steradian is the same as Candela. Please can you at least give users the opportunity to change the Peak Intensity units so that the match the Y axis title.  Even better Candela should be the default Luminous Intensity unit and if users want to revert to Lumens/Steradian they sh

I did optimization in nonsequencial mode, from NSC 3D layout, it looks I have a big rectangular beam on the detector, however, when I use the detector viewer, after ray tracing (clear&trace), I found the beam size is much smaller (10 times smaller) than shown on NSC 3D layout, am I missing something here? Hello, I am trying to run simple 4f setup in sequential mode. I want to use two point sources and want to analyze results by changing coherence property of two point sources as following : coherent to each other, partially coherent to each other, and incoherent to each other. I have following questions : 1. is it possible to run two point sources at once or need to run individually and then sum results coherently or incoherently?  2. if possible, how to set coherence property of two point sources in seq mode? 3. As there is an output under Analyze ->physical optics in space (xy domain), how to get respective field results in k- domain? Thanks :)

I would like to get some measurements made with this device of parts that I have on hand and have them available within the IS Scatter Catalog for subsequent NS simulation work. I am using Zemax OpticStudio 21.1.2 Premium version.  How do I proceed?

I have collimated light coming in to a Diffraction Grating (object material set to mirror). It is oriented at Lithrow angle such that green (for example) reflects right back along the optical axis. The Pitch axis is set to my lithrow angle. In this configuration I should be able to Yaw the grating, steering the rays like a mirror. However, there are 2 issues 1) If my yaw angle is 4 deg, for example, it does not steer by 8 degrees as expected 2) My 'blue' and 'red' wavelengths rotate around the 'green' wavelength as I yaw. If I 'clock' the grating (z rotation) then I can derotate the rotation. For some reason, in order to steer, unclocked by 8 degrees, instead of a yaw of 4, I need a yaw of like 2.5, and a clock of 2.5 as well. Has anyone experienced something similar. This is odd behavior. The yaw should simply steer it like a mirror, if the the grating lines are oriented in the pitch axis   Thank you
