If I have a radius of curvature R = 0.865” and a surface semi-diameter of 0.75” and I apply a TAPR decenter DY of 0.25”, I’ll get a range of r going from -1.0” to 0.5”, which then gives sin(alpha) = abs(-1/0.865) = 1.156.  Taking the asin of this gives me an error (in Excel).  Am I doing this correctly?  (All “x” components are “0” for this question, e.g. no DX involved).  Thanks.Alex

When I am optimizing a relay system, the optimization method uses the spot, and the variable is the thickness. The software optimizes to obtain an optimal solution, but at this optimal position, the light spot on the image surface is not the smallest. 

Hello,On the sequential mode of Zemax, the source is represented by just one wavelength. I would like to know if it is possible to see the phase map for a source with a spectral width with the sequential mode of Zemax ? If it is not possible directly, maybe I can save the value of the graph RMS vs Wavelength for my spectral range and after i will manipulate these data to add a weight on each wavelength ?  Thanks for your answers

Hi!I am trying to set a system made of two Fresnel lenses (that I don’t know anything about), capable of accepting +/- 45 deg of source incident angle. I am working in non sequential and I am getting familiar with the optimization wizard. For this specific application I have run an optimization (orthogonal descent algorithm), in order to minimze the RMS on the detector and to have a minimum power of 0.08 W (see Local Optimization Viewer pic attached). The variables are:Thickness of both lenses Radius of curvature of both lenses Coeff r2 of both lenses Frequency of both lenses Conic constant of both lenses z1, z2 (distance between lenses, distance between second lens and detector)This optimization yielded a 25 h process, leading to the results I attach here in the format of pics as well (Merit function editor, Detector viewer and System view).How should I interpret these results? Hi , I am trying to design a schwarzschild objective mirror.I’d like to calculate the each DoF(depth of focus) at RMS wavefront error λ/5, λ/10, λ/15, λ/20.Where λ is 1.03 micrometer. When using OPDX operand, what should I fill in the “Hx, Hy, Px, Py” and “Target” section? This is my first that use the Opticstudio, so I don’t know how to change the wavefront error. Can any one help me?

Hi everyone,I am completely new to ZEMAX, I am supposed to simulate a refraction grating with asymmetric gap distances.To be exact, my system should look like this: A laser with 0.5mm diameter illuminates a refraction grating with the 2 alternating slit distances (5 and 10um) and fixed slit width (5um). After the grating, an intensity pattern is created by the interference of the light. I would like to calculate this interference pattern.Is this possible with Zemax and does anyone have tips and ideas how to start something like this?If someone can help me, I would be super thankfulBest, Annika

Hi, I found options to enable/disable GPU calculations in the ZOSAPI help (bool ZOSAPI.Preferences.IPreferencesGeneral.GetIsGPUEnabled() ), but I can’t find them in Project Preferences → General in OpticStudio nor in my standalone application.When I run a batch ray trace, I can see that the computation are done using the GPU.Thanks

Dear community,I saw that when the OPD was plotted, a nice continuous function was shown. However, the raw data itself shows ‘steps’. Below figure shows the OPD fan as plotted in Zemax; The figure below that is a plot by Matlab of the raw .txt data of the same OPD. Why is there a difference in the plotted data? And how can I fix this, such that the same data can be plotted in matlab as the OPD in OpticStudio? Thank you for your help! Best, Monica

Dear Community, I’m trying to model the diffraction from microlens arrays using non-sequential mode. I’ve made my array fine and I’m using a diffractive source. The results look nice, with the diffraction spikes in the place where I would expect. What I do not understand is that the intensity of the diffraction spikes are much smaller than I see in reality. Has anyone ever tried to use Zemax to model these effects before or is there an example somewhere?

I imported a part that I made in a different CAD program to OpticStudio but when it loaded, the program seemed to limit the number of surfaces I was allowed, and then arbitrarily assigned surface values to different faces. How can I re-assign surfaces to an imported part in OpticStudio so that I can define the correct individual surface properties?

Hello,I exported my design from Zemax OpticalStudio 21.2 as an STL file, but found that the accuracy is not satisfactory. I think the accuracy can be improved by setting a smaller tolerance in the CAD export, however, I cannot find this option despite that the Zemax help file and the article in the knowledgebase does indicate that the software has this setting. Could any of you please take a look and tell me how I can fix this? Please see the attached picture.Thank you.

I need to simulate a gaussian beam in non sequential mode, which has 850 nm wavelength, 15 degree diveregence angle (half angle) and the beam raduis of 2.563 mm at 10 mm which has the cross section of the beam profile shape as attached below, but when putting this values using the Gaussian source it doesnt give me the same results. By using the skewRaysCircular I cannot get the gaussain beam profile and it just shows me a ring, how can I get a gaussian beam profile in the output?

I was pleased to see the new NSC Source DLL 'SkewRaysCircular.dll' added in the May 19 release (OpticStudio 20.2).  We have immediate use for it in modeling our systems. It was inspired by the similar (sequential) User Defined Surface DLLs discussed in Paul Colbourne's webinar and KnowledgeBase Article KA-01772, which allows optimization of generally astigmatic Gaussian beams in Sequential mode. But I was disappointed to see that the new Non-Sequential Source DLL only models CIRCULAR Gaussian beams with no astigmatism, unlike the Sequential capabilities that were supplied by Dr. Colbourne, which accommodate general astigmatism! I suggest updating and replacing SkewRaysCircular.dll with a new, more general, Source DLL, renamed appropriately, e.g., SkewRaysGaussianXY.dll , that DOES support general astigmatism.  This would seem simple enough to implement starting from the existing SkewRaysCircular.dll:  add new pairs of parameters for WaistX, WaistY, (and/or SIzeX, Siz
