I’m building a laser doppler vibrometer as a senior project. To better understand how interference patterns work, I wanted to simulate this. In real life I will be using an electro optic modulator on one branch of the interferometer to heterodyne a carrier signal of around 80kHz. I would like to detect a doppler shift from vibrations around 5kHz. I loaded up the mach zehnder example file and would somehow like to run one path through what would be an 80 kHz modulation and then another 5 kHz to simulate the shift vibrations. I guess I’d like to try and see if a spectrum analyzer could pick this up and see the 5 kHz shift isolated. Or maybe view it in transient. The real life project has the recombined beam fed into a photodiode, then trans-impedance amplifier, then FM demodulator to read out only the doppler shift. Any insight on how to simulate a modulated beam / laser doppler vibrometer type system would be an amazing help! (FYI I have not used this program before so I am not familiar
How do we model parallel beams from a source? It’s shown in pictures, yet all the associated text is for approximating to a point source. I tried modeling the sun as a radial source and just got a single ray, instead of a array or rays that are all parallel, covering the incident surface.This must be simple, just haven't found it in the documentation..Thanks,Josh

Hello everyone I’m a new user of Zeman and I need to simulate a simple experimental set-up. The system is composed by:two spherical mirrors wiht a focal lenght of -200 mm and diameter of 50 mm the target is a checkboard composed by 8 A3 pappers (840x1200) the target is a 3500 mm from the first mirror two tests was carried out: mirrors at 130 mm apart (d=130mm) mirrors at 200 mm apart (d=200mm) below the image of the set-up. Using this set-up I have obtained the images reported in Fig.2 and Fig.3 I tried to reproduce the set-up using Zemax (file attached). To simplify the simulation I have removed the flat mirror. With Zemax I can't get a result similar to the experimental one.I think that my problem is in the aperture settings (system explorer > aperture). I have imposed Enter pupil diameter at 40 mm and the first mirror is the stop surface. However when I simulate the view with Image simulation tool I see only a dark rectangle. I obtain an image only if I reduce the diameter to 2
Hi,When I run POP analysis, I also want to have a look to the Propagation Report, just to be sure that the beam is properly sampled across all surfaces. However, when I swith from Graphic tab to the Prop Report (or vice-versa) the POP analysis runs from scratch.This is quite slow, expecially when high sampling is required. Is there a way to avoid this behavior?A (non efficient) solution seems to save the files data at all the surfaces and use the beam viewer to see the plots and set the POP to the Prop Report tab. But is requires the creation of huge files.Thanks for any hint! Marco

Hello: I am designing an image slicer integral field unit for a spectrograph. The image slicer is a stack of thin mirrors, all with the same curvature, but each individually tilted. In my case, I have a stack of 24 thin mirrors, each 5 mm wide and 0.2 mm thick. The whole stack of mirrors is about 4.8 mm tall. Each mirror is tilted slightly from the one above or below it, like a pile of books on a table. Here what it looks like from the side: I made this in Zemax using 24 different configurations. Now I would like to make this as a single surface. I would like to make a 1x24 array, and define an X and Y tilt of each mirror. I’m told that the us_mems.dll user defined surface might be suitable to do this, but I can’t figure out how to use it to achieve my goal. Specifically, I don’t know what angle0, angle1, angle2, rot angle, P flag, and Rows1-15 control. How do I use the us_mems.dll to make a surface like this? Thank you. CheersMike Connelley
Hello, I am trying to simulate the Gaussian beam system with 405 nm wavelength of my experimental design. I would like to verify and confirm the beam waist of the Gaussian beam and the associated working distance. There are three main components of the system: Optical fibre with MFD 2.4um and 0.091 for NA at 1/e^2. So I set for the aperture type as Entrance Pupil Diameter as the size of 0.0024 mm. The waist location between the fibre centre is calculated by taking account the NA at 1/e^2 as 0.013mm. The Gaussian beam pass through Collimator and reached to the focusing lens put in the Black-Box by the manufactuer. Therefore, we are interested in determing the beam waist focused by the focusing lens and the associated working distance. I don’t see any tools to evaluate a line focus…OPD fan requires scaling both X and Y fans. The scale cannot be changed to “zoom in” on the OPD for the focus axis.FFT PSF won’t work either b/c it operates on the 2D WFE at the pupil Huygens suffers from the same limitations as the FFT PSFThe best I can do right now is extract the OPD from the text of the OPD fan. I can then evaluate the RMS WFE and even FFT it myself to produce an aberrated PSF.Is there a better way?
I want to produce an animation of a non-sequential model. The only way I know to do this is based upon a Knowledge Base article: ( Link to Article ). Based upon the article, I can grab snapshots of the analysis window and store these as “frames” and later animate them.A non-sequential model can take a while to trace. Lightning Trace can dramatically speed this up. However, there are several issues:Lightning Trace does not seem available through the ZPL. A script cannot execute lightning trace and update the graphics window. If an NSC Shaded Model window is used, and the settings are adjusted to Use LightningTrace, then all my rays turn black, obscuring the view of the detector where I want the person viewing the animation to see the illumination.Are there alternatives that enable a Lightning Trace to operate such that an animation can be created?Changing Display Mode to Lightning TraceBlack Rays Obscure Detector Results
I want to simulate a system, which contains a single mode fiber, and a none core fiber. At the end face of the none core fiber, the surface is polished to certain angle or titled (for example 47degree), so that the total internal reflection is expected to happen. The light beam will emit from the side face of the none core fiber. What should I do to make TIR happen? Is it possible to do it in ZEMAX sequential mode? Because I want to perform imaging analysis, such as aberration, sequential mode is needed.Thank you. Oliver
Hi all,I’m currently facing a problem about aligning the correct coordinate system between my imported CAD file and the source ray. So, I imported a CAD file into the NSC mode, and then I lunched a source ray to intersect with the CAD model. However, as the coordinate system between the NSC source ray and the CAD model is different. I can only do manual adjustment of the x,y,z position to attempt to intersect this two objects, and it is clearly not accurate.My question is, is there any operand or marco to help me get the global coordinate of two models? I think with the vlaue of the two global coordinates, I can adjust the value and ask the two align using zemax marco. Or is there any better idea to align these two objects in NSC mode? Dear Sir/ Mam,I have been using single Off axis mirror with a paraxial lens. There is a lilt in image is expected.To know the tilt in a 3D space I used coordinate break. I can see the tilt in x and y with chief ray solve.Is it correct to assume the tilt angle is correct with respect to image plane in an off axis system? Hi, I have a sequential imaging system that is illuminated by a ray bundle with an array of angles. Therefore, I have defined the about ~20 field angles and I would like to see the image at the image plane of all fields. The problem that I have is that if I use the geometric image analysis, I can only view one field angle at a time. Or, if I want to view the full field spot analysis, I can only view the first 12 fields. Is there something equivalent to a non-sequential detector but in sequential mode where you can view the image from a variety, > 12 field angles, at once? Jake

To compare the results I'm trying to implement this optical system in sequential mode in zemax, so I needed the same object that is the USAF-Target image, but I don't know how to add an external image in zemax.Could someone tell me if there is a way to add an external image for image simulation?Thank you very much in advance!
Why does Physical Optics Prop irradiance use the watts per (lens units)² rather than the Units/Analysis Unit: Watts per (units specified)²? My lens is in millimeters, but I need watts/cm² for the Physical Optics irradiance scaling. I select Watts per cm² in the Units/Analysis Unit:, but the irradiance stays in Watts per mm². Same if I select Watts per in² or any other irradiance unit. Seems like a bug to me.
Hi,How can we be able to apply a threshold at 80% in Irradiance to detect two separate spots? I am referring to peak interdistance optimization to correspond to 80% of the maximum relative irradiance. It is mentioned under this article.
