The puzzles come from when I try to use POP to simulate the diffraction effect of my Grid phase which is written in Matlab.I set a system with object at infinity, surface one is a dummy surface. Surface two is my Grid phase with distance 0 behind the surface one.First I check the Grid phase in the phase map. Intepolation is pixelated. The phase ranges from -0.49~0.49 (unit 2pi) and center point has phase 0. Operade RAED at surface two for the chief ray of on axis is 7e-4. Total pixel is an odd number to ensure no offset.The propagation in POP starts from surface one and ends at surface two. The pixel size is set the same as in the phase map. The phase after surface two ranges from -3.09~3.14 (radians), which is non-symmetric and different from what I see in phase map. The center phase is non-zero, phase refers to a plane. --Need Help--I have this issue, I have two CAD objects in Hybrid mode. I would want the light beam to reflect after it touches on the CAD surface. However, the light beam seems to ignore the coated surface and passes through. Any reason why this is happening? 

Hi,Here is my very simple setup and its spot diagram, which is smaller that Airy Radius, so I wanted to investigate PSF further using FFT PSFbut I don’t get any image, just black windowAfter that, Zemax is slowing down, stopped work and closed. When open Zemax again,  I am getting this messageI have tried with other file ( but with similar simulations) it is happening again - I am getting black screen for FFT PSF and Zemax is down. I am sure my laptop has enough RAMs to accommodate Zemax. Regards,Marzanna

Can ZEMAX model different wavelength with different sources without using multiple configuration? The reason is that I would want to see all the light collimated to a single point which is to lens 2  

OpticStudio only supports CAD models created in Version 4 of Creo.  Creo V4 is 5 years old and the latest version of Creo is now Version 8.  Isn’t it about time that the development team updated Zemax to work with newer versions? Andrew

Hello, I’d like to know how to output a set of Zernike values when running Tolerancing when I have two separate configurations?Setup: There are two wavefronts being evaluated in each configuration. Tolerancing is setup to run a User Tolerance Script. The TSC loads a merit function with criterion for both configurations. There is a setting under Tolerancing→ Criterion that allows for the configuration to be set to “All”, “1/2” and “2/2”. The TSC computes the standard Zernike terms within and reports them to an output TXT file.Issue: Running in any CFG mode produces the nominal system output and only one evaluation of the MIN/MAX tolerance. If running in “All” mode, the Zernike values for CFG 1 are reported, same as running in “1/2” mode. Running in “2/2” modes, the Zernike values expected for CFG 2 are reported. Question: Is there a trigger for the TSC or a setting such that Zernike values for both configs are output during a single tolerancing run? Hi, I am trying to develop a GRIN lens model for my optical design.  However, the profile of the beam output is not correct.  I would like to learn how I can fix it. Below is a screenshot of the result I have from Zemax 13.  As we can see, the beam only focuses on one axis (y-axis).  The width in the z-axis reminds the same.  I tried to run the simulation using OpticStudio 22.3, but the result reminds the same.  I followed this thread to start my work.  The GRIN lens I use is from Edmund #64-541. (https://www.edmundoptics.com/p/10mm-dia-810nm-dwl-00mm-wd-nir-coated-grin-lens/19253/) I imported the .step file downloaded from the website and assigned the index based on what I got from the sequential mode.   I feel this issue comes from the .step file.  I tried to draw a solid cylinder with 1 mm in diameter and 2.38 mm in length (the same as the dimension of the GRIN lens), but it did not work…  Maybe I should not draw a solid cylinder directly.  Or it was actually caused by other issues.

Searched and read the KB articles and some threads here for the single mode fiber couplings. All of them were talking about how to couple laser beam (Gaussian beam) into single mode fibers. I am wondering if anybody here have done single mode fiber coupling with Non-Gaussian beam? Are there any tools and operands can be used for analysis the coupling efficiency? It seems to me that the POP and Single Mode Fiber Coupling tool are all designed for Gaussian beam. Please advise! Best regards,Bob  

I have considered 1,00,000 rays in simulation. Is this fine or I have to increase the number of rays? Is there any relation between number of rays and input power? Any answer will be help full.

Hi,I need to create two maps (grids) presenting deviation of:best, on-axis focus vs its position on the filed ( on-axis focus vs the amount of off-axis defocus) on-axis PSF vs off-axis PSF The closest things I found in Zemax is Grid Distortion. I am doing light collection using multimode optical fiber. I have designed fiber in non-sequential mode using the object type "cylinder volume" . Is the fiber design is equivalent to multimode fiber? How to define numerical aperture for fiber in non-sequential mode?

Greetings! I am trying to use the image simulator but instead with object height to get a better idea of what to expect with the lenses I am using. After having built my system using a field type of angle, I have not been able to switch it or use “Convert to” to get object type. I am quite new to this software and unsure how to resolve this issue (in order to produce a simulated image using object height). I am receiving the “Can’t use object height at infinite conjugates” error. Does anyone have any suggestions?Below is attached the file.

What does this term means? Though I got the attached “.zpl” file which is working fine, but still DOE sag equation has to be executed in excel or some other tool like matlab. Thanks.

Hi,I would like to determine the centre of the mass of the spot and its location coordinates for the outermost field. It is easy for the on-axis rays, the spot is in the centre, IMA, and cursor coordinates show [0, 0]. However, the spot is stretched for the most outer points on the field plane. Do IMA coordinates show the spot's location on the image plane and the centre of the spot mass simultaneously?The second thing is that when I was trying to find the location of the spot based on the IMA  values using the mouse cursor, the IMA and cursor coordinates values were similar ( with the same signs) but the cursor was away from the spot ( situation 1), in situation 2, when I set the cursor in the centre of the spot, the cursor coordinates were opposite to IMA values. Regards,Marzanna

Hello! I am fairly inexperienced with OpticStudio, so the solutions to my question may be simple. Currently I am trying to model a system whereby light originates from the left surface, goes through a beam-splitter (the cube), and I analyze the output after the bottom lens (the one on the right I would like to ignore -- say this light leaves the system). The issue I am facing is that I am not able to establish a surface after the bottom lens and, additionally, the light is reflecting off of the rounded end of the lens and ending back at the flat end. Does anyone have any ideas? 

Hi, A colleague converted a CodeV file to a Zemax file. I am a Zemax user, the file won’t trace rays in Zemax . I get an error statement - “error in target, can’t lunch rays”. I went ahead to set vignetting in the field editor and try to trace rays again and now I get the statement - “error in target, missed surface 52”.  since rays can’t be traced, no analysis can be done. What can I do to fix these errors? could this be a conversion problem from CodeV  to Zemax ? Assuming the problem is from the conversion, how do I fix this?  Thank you. 

Hi all, During tolerancing of some lenses (using the mtf as criteria) I get the “Lens cannot be traced, tolerances may be too loose!”However, opening one of this the monte carlo files it seems like the mtf is bad but larger than zero. What can be the reason for this? Thanks,Nadav
