Hi,I got Zemax Optic Studio 2023 R1.00. When started using PSF The same Zemax behaviour keeps happening when trying PSF analyses using Zemax Design Templates ( even on very simple 2 lenses system). I was testing PSF function on our PC  - same reaction. My brand new laptop got and 16 GB RAMOur PCand 320GB RAM.They both have Windows 11 Pro.I would like to contact Zemax Technical support but couldn't find email. 

Hi,I like calculating the optics' optical weight/detection function below.The isotropic light with fine sphere volume should be allocated on the optical axis. It will move along the axis and the radiant power on the image plane should be calculated. Thus, I can have a dataset or plots with radiant power Vs. the position of the light source along the optical axis. Could you give me a comment for setting the light source and the radiance power calculation on the image plane? Or if a similar example already exists, could you just let me try? Thank you.Jeongwon

I want to build a toy model composed of a grating and a diaphragm, as in the following diagram:Namely, the stop surface should be the diaphragm. However, when I build this model in ZEMAX under sequential mode, the stop surface is in the diffraction grating though I set it in the diaphragm plane. How can I modify those settings. Thank you. 

Hello,I am trying to compute the polycromatic RMS wavefront error of an imaging system with the Merit Function, but using the ZERN operands rather than the default merit function and ray OPDX operands. Does anyone know how it could be done? Thank yoy very much in advance! 

I am wondering if anyone has experience with modeling the output of a large mode area (LMA) fiber? Hello Experts,I am new to zemax design. I want to design a molded aspheric lens by using PMMA material..Lens diameter is 26mm, EFL is 11.111mm, bfl is 7mm. I can design with single field and single wavelength. But while i am trying to do in multi wavelength and multi field  i am not able to control the edge thickness and aberrations. So please give a suggestion to design this lens. and what are the operands need to use? How to optimize? Thank you in advance.Arunpandi

Hi, when trying to export a 3D file in Step format, I got this message:I looked on the web and found I should try to toggle “ Setup..Project Preferences..General..Use ACIS Libraries”, but in my version of zemax (the latest), no “project preference”, there is “optic studio preference”, under which I find nothing about ACIS libraries… Thanks if anyone have an idea.Julien

I would like to translate a group of elements (output group on the right hand side) as shown in below schematic along the blue dashed axis.If I change just the THICKNESS property between the two groups it will only affect the Z axis distance. Whereas, my intent is to translate the output group in XYZ space by maintaining the coaxial relationship between the two groups.Thanks - AS

Had a previously installed Ansys OpticStudio 2023 R1.02.Installed Ansys OpticStudio 2023 R2.02 did not prompt for removal of previous version.Now I have two versions of OpticStudio on my system and I would only like to keep only the latest version. Is there a preferred/recommended method (clean way) to uninstall OpticStudio which will remove all the traces and leftovers (folders, temp files, etc.)? Thanks

Dear allI am a researcher who is interested in modelling eye optics. We are developing different Zebrafish models to study eye optics. I am trying to use the standard method to model the Zebrafish, and I would ultimately compare different mutant Zebrafish with their eye optics. I was being questioned if ZEMAX (geometric optics) is applicable to the Zebrafish eye due to the relatively small eyes may cause the diffraction limit. Could someone provide advice on this topic?RegardsWilson 

Hi,I have a telescope design (sequential mode) in which I tried to insert a non sequential component. In the attached file the telescope model is OK, and at the end (surface 11), I inserted a NSC component, containing nothing for the moment. I can’t figure out why rays are not entering the NSC component and going through…If anyone can have a look on the attached file, that would be great!Thanks,Julien

Hi, I am doing a non-sequential ray trace of an optical system. I would like to add a second source but let the rays go in opposite direction of the Z-axis. I added a “Source Two Angle”, but it is going in the other direction, i.e. +Z direction. How do i get the rays to go in -Z- direction? Can i change the color of this source to distinguish between the two sources?Many thanks!

The f-number (F/#) is defined as the focal length divided by the entrance pupil diameter. In ZEMAX, the Effective Focal Length (EFL) is calculated by tracing an on-axis parabasal ray, and the Entrance Pupil Diameter (EPD) is the diameter of the paraxial image of the stop in object space. However, measuring EFL with a single ray in the real world is challenging, and the paraxial EPD image doesn't match the actual EPD image. This often results in a discrepancy between the Image Space F/# in ZEMAX and the measured f/#.The measurable EFL is determined by measuring the image height with a known incident angle. The Trioptics ImageMaster® HR, a common testing device, projects a double slit from infinity with a half-width angle of about 0.573 degrees. EFL is calculated as ImageHeight / TAN(0.573 degrees). I am going through the article on POP analysis, and came across this : “Under the Display tab, check Save Output Beam To: and Save Beam At All Surfaces. These options create a Zemax Beam (.zbf) File at every surface that contains the electric field information.”Here is the aricle : https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005488601-Using-Physical-Optics-Propagation-POP-Part-1-Inspecting-the-beamsThe ZBF file output seems to give only irradiance in watts/mm^2. There is an option called Ex and Ey irradiance, not sure what this means, but it seems like irradiance output in either x or y coordinate.I understand that it is the electric field (complex) that is being propogated in free space with POP algorithm, but the output is always irradiance, right?Is it possible to retrieve the electric field data by sq root of irradiance ? I am trying to get some clarity on whether the ZBF text file has irradiance or electric field data ? Any help would be very much appreciated. Regards, NC  

Hello all: [1] I was trying do conduct some sensitivity analysis and wanted to apply a Thickness: Pickup solve on surf-8. I have done this many times before, where I choose Pickup solve for thickness for a surface. However, I don’t seem to see that option anymore at all in 2024 R1.02.Has something changed since the last few updates?  [2] Also, Surf-6 is denoted by ‘P’ - Pickup solve - but the drop down menu shows it as a ‘F’ solve but with Pickup properties as one would expect. So I believe this is a bug. 

There are two different approaches to do this. Take Radial Grating as example. Click the tab at the right position of standard surface.  And then  pressed R instead of clicking the standard surface column directly.   Select the surface and click directly and then enter the name you want to search. In our case, it starts with r. This method provides a way to search the surface with certain letter inside the surface name.

Normally, when light hits CMOS, most of the power is absorbed and converted to electric power in the pixels. And only a certain ratio of power is diffracted in the reflection direction. In the UV, CaF2 begins to exhibit small amounts of intrinsic birefringence, which are non-negligible. In Code V there is a very simple way to set up a CaF2 crystal where a crystalline axis is simply established. When a retardance map is calculated for light refracted by such a CaF2 lens, birefringence shows up as “three-point” across the pupil if the light is diverging or converging through a CaF2 crystal with 111 orientation (see https://www.tf.uni-kiel.de/matwis/amat/elmat_en/kap_6/advanced/t6_6_1.html for more details). Or it can show up as a “cross” if the orientation is 001.First of all, I’m not seeing CaF2 as a Birefringent In/Out material option. I understand I would need to define this in the Birefringent catalog. Second, I need to be able to vary the retardance magnitude and orientation depending on the crystal axis orientation and direction of propagation through the crystal. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi All:I am testplating a zoom lens.   As part of the process after optimization, I  would “Fix” both infinite radius surfaces, as well as the base radius of any a spheres.    In this case the error function is about  ~ERF=0.4966.   However,  when starting the testplating operation, note that the dialogue box recognizes the prior error function of ~ 0.496,  but then estimates an ERF of ~9 Billion, and then Zemax stalls completely
