Hello, everyone, I am trying to implement a spectrometer in the EUV spectral range in the Harada configuration, i.e. a variable-line space spherical grating.To do this, I am using the 'Elliptical Grating' surface; however, when I start the optimiser I get that 'beta' is of the opposite sign and rescaled by exactly a factor of 3 compared to what I calculated using the formula:beta = 3*b3/(R^2 * T). The formula was taken from the article “Design of spherical varied line—space gratings for a high-resolution EUV spectrometer”.Zemax, on the other hand, provides the value via this equation: beta = -b3/(R^2 * T).I am using the following parameters:1. working wavelength: 105 nm2. Incidence angle: 8.985 degree2. system at unit magnification3. input arm: 406.23 mm4. Grating radius of curvature: -402.8 mm, so grating semi-axes: 2.4826e-35. Grating frequency: 2400 lines/mm.6. Ruling parameter: b2 = 0.066, b3 = 0.0087. So, alpha = -1.3654e-4 and beta = 2.2323e-8.Can you help me understand this aspe

Hi, When I check the “use Centroid” in the Huygens PSF setting, based on the documentation, “Center coordinate” becomes the coordinates of the “geometric image centroid' and there is an offset (“Centroid offset”) between “Center coordinates” and “Centroid coordinates”. I am wondering why “Center coordinates” and “Centroid coordinates” do not have same values. And how is the “geometric image centroid” defined?   Thanks

Hi, I am currently trying to simulate a simple Scheimpflug setup. I know the angle between image plane and principal plane ( β ) and want to find the angle between object plane and second principal plane (alpha). I set up my system with a BB floating lens system with aperture “float by stop size” and real image height as my field.  In Zemax I inserted a coordinate break directly before the image and set the Tilt X to my angle β. The idea was that I could now use the optimization to determine the angle of my image plane. However, I do not find the correct way to tilt my object plane.I tried putting a coordinate break onto the object plane (using negative thickness after the object) but that doesn’t seem to be correct. Also, I tried to use VDX, VDY, TAN with no success.Could someone please give me a hint how I can setup a Scheimplug setup where I can get the angle of the sharpness plane?

Hi,it seems that it is not possible to set coatings as “substitute” and use the global search to find the best coating for a surface, like we do for glasses.I’m designing NIR achromatic lenses and used global search function to find the best glasses for chromatic correction and good transmission, for the moment using I.99999 ideal coating, but now I would like to find the best coating available.Any idea?Thanks,Julien

In Zemax, I am trying to simulate a refractive bifocal IOL having 0 D and 3 D power using Liou Brennan's eye model for a 5 mm pupil diameter where light comes from the cornea to the retina. Now, in the through-focus MTF pannel, the focus shift is in the millimeter unit, although, in most of the research articles, MTF variation is shown in the diopter. How do I know that the created phase map is correct ( meaning that I am getting the 3-diopter power correctly from  the MTF map. Please help. Thank you. 

I need to simulate the light distribution on a curved surface. I have the surface as an IGES-file and importing it and setting it as a detector works fine. However, I need to sample the irradiance on my surface with ~ 200k pixels. According to the documentation, the only way to change the number of pixels for a CAD detector is by changing the “Chord Tolerance” under the CAD properties. And I can easily go up to 100k pixels with my surface by going down to chord tolerances of about 1E-4. However, if I further decrease the chord tolerances, the number of pixels peaks at 120k at a chord tolerance of 3E-5 and then starts to decrease again. At 1E-5, I am down to only 110 k pixels and at 1E-6 I get only 50k pixels. I also tried different values for the “Surface Tolerance” under the chord tolerances but this does not seem to have any effect here. What can I do to better sample my light distribution? And why would the number if pixels start to decrease for smaller tolerances in the first place

I want to add the angular resolution from the physical system we have purchased. I have limited the tilt parameters for the maximum tilt, but I want to also limit the resolution of the mirrors. Is there a way to do this using the MFE? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,I'm looking for a way to plot ray incidence angles for a given surface. While RAID allows this for individual rays, I'm interested in a plot, similar to the ‘Incident Angle vs. Image Height’ plot, but applicable to an arbitrary surface.Ideally, it would be a 2D plot that shows the incidence angle over field and pupil coordinates. I've explored using the universal plot, but it doesn't seem straightforward since you can't vary the Hy, Py inputs to the merit function directly.I realize this can be achieved with a custom script, and I’m hoping someone might already have a solution or be willing to share something that accomplishes this.Thanks in advance for any help!

用理想的菲涅尔面型设计好光学系统之后，把理想面在混合序列下转化为实际菲涅尔面型（fresnel 1）后，设置不同的齿宽，如-Freq设置为-20，#subsegments设置为20时，3D Layout图里不显示菲涅尔的齿形，#subsegments设置为15时，3D显示菲涅尔的实际齿形，对比这两种设置下的MTF，分段20比分段15MTF要好，所以这里我想确认，设置分段20时，3D不显示齿形的原因是显示精度原因吗，MTF值是否可参考？还是必须参考显示真实齿的对应MTF？@chenyuan上图：分段15；下图分段20

I am creating a double pass system in non-sequential. The basic design is a primary and secondary mirror and two windows in between them. This double pass system will be used in the forward and reverse directions. The forward direction (shown below in blue) works as expected however the reverse direction does not (shown below in red).Forward Direction Reverse DirectionThe reverse direction results in the rays back propagating to the source after the second reflection off the primary mirror instead of continuing to the second reflection off of the secondary mirror. I don’t understand why this is happening since the first reflection off each mirror appears to function correctly. How can I determine why the rays are not reflecting as expected?

Hi, more and more team members are being issued ARM machines. Windows 11 ARM has a pretty decent x64 emulation, still Zemax runs very, very slow. I am not referring to raytraces, but simply loading the UI for the empty lens.zos takes a lot of time. Note that I do not believe this is a problem with the processor speed, because they should be capable of pretty intensive operations.Would it be possible to compile and package the Zemax installers for ARM64 as well?Thank you.

I want to assign a source to one of the wavelengths in the System explorer (wave#) to show how it can progress through my non sequential system of filters, fluorescent targets, etc.  I tried setting the source properties using the color/spectrum to an actual spectrum file I wrote in the sources folder (even with a monochromatic response at one of the wavelengths) but it didn’t map the rays to the wave# or match the fluorescence wave shift routine.  Is this possible and what are the settings on the source object properties to make this work?

In a color detector, the same amount of smooth, grayscale, and color get different results. The resulting grid widths are significantly different. I would like to know what is the difference between smooth calculation and normal calculation under color? Which one is more accurate? 

is here way to use log scale for color detector? I can see my light with log-10, but cannot with Contrast Enhancement 100%.or can I import color data with same precision as log -10 and info about wave?
