Dear all,   I am running customized analyzes and would like to adress different types of MTF inputs. However, changing the MTF Type does not seem to work properly. I am not an expert in python or the ZOS API, so there might be an error in the code. But all other settings work properly. See the attached ZAR. The ray hits the mesh, but the detector reports 0 irradiance on all faces. The ray trace tool also reports 0 lost energy. I would expect 1 of 2 faces to be hit, or for lost energy to be reported.

How do I access 'Lost energy (thresholds)' and 'Lost energy (errors)' in the Python API? I didn't see anything in the syntax help.

Hi, I am running some simulations in ZEMAX via MATLAB for image analysis after changing some parameters. I am running in non-sequential mode and detector type rectangle below.  My issue is getting the wrong image format via MATLAB. The detector image I save manually in detector viewer in ZEMAX has format is a 800x800x8 uint8 with 24 bit image. This is what I want to use for further analysis in MATLAB, but its cumbersum to manually save each image for each simulation when you do many. I just want to run this in the background and save time. After extracting the PSF with the Huygens tecnuìique, hoe can one extract its radius and the standard deviation of a gaussian fit superimposed to it? What I would like to do is take the PSF of my imaging system (which includes a black box lens) and evaluate the radius of the PSF as a function of defocus. Also I would like to simulate the PSF generated by a homogeneously illuminated pinhole. How would one do that?

However, It can only generate the ray with random sampling. It disturb measuring exact value of power density on detector. Could you explain why sobal sampling is not available? Good morning, I am designing a broadband spectrometer (currently in sequential mode). I think someone may answer the following questions way faster than I can. I am interested in measuring the spot size in the dispersion direction (therefore not as a general RMS parameter, as it is usually given). Is there a way in Zemax to automatically measure it through the merit function? I know that the optimization wizard allows to choose a X Weight and an Y Weight. Is there any reference I can read of the topic? Can you advice any specific reference on how to relate the calculated RMS spot size in Zemax to the spectrometer resolution? Hi I have an OpticStudio project where I am able to import a .STL file and I would like to create detector rectangles from its surfaces. Is there a way of doing that in C++ / C# using the ZOS-API?  I would greatly appreciate it if I could have a starting point. Ideally I would like to create detectors from all of the surfaces, but from what I have seen a detector has to be a rectangle.  Is that correct?  I would like to be able to export the detector data, probably in the form of individual exports for each surface. Hello, I'm using the ZOS-API-MATLAB to run many local optimizations within a for loop (where the merit function is of a Physical Optics Propagation result). Since this process is slow, I'm wondering if I would be able to run multiple for loops at once using the parallel pool matlab toolbox and take advantage of my multi-core computer... Would this work or am I missing other bottlenecks in the process that would not allow me to use API in this way? Thanks!

Hello, I would like to retrieve current object number in Macro while I choose ZPL macro in solveing type of x position in  pure NS editor. I check Manual and found there is a function that can get the object number. NPRO(surf, object, code,face), but the object parameter  in this function is object number which is what I want to retrieve. I cannot get the Tilt About X or Y to insert new tilt angle.  And I would like to read from a .txt to do the same but cannot get the write method to initially set or change the Tilt About X - here is some of my code. A user asked why when using ZPL macro to save the Cross Section Row Coherent Irradiance data from Detector Viewer, the .txt file he got does not match the information displayed in the Text tab of the Detector Viewer. Instead of seeing a 2-column data of X position versus Irradiance, he kept seeing 3-column data displaying “Spatial Frequency, X and Y” This is because in his code, the Configuration file is saved with the settings displayed in the Graph tab of the Detector Viewer, where the Cross Section Row is data value #4 in the “Show As:” dropdown list, (the index starts at 0). However, the GETTEXTFILE keyword is retrieving data from the Text tab of the Detector Viewer, where there isn’t a data value #4 in the “Show As:” dropdown list, so OpticStudio simply saves the data from the last available data value #3 which is the “Geometric MTF”. I like to edit the ZPL codes but the button of 'Edit' could not open the file, just execute the zpl files. It was working but for some reason, it is not working now at all. Please let me know.

Hi,   I'm trying to create a mixed mode model that incorporates the Mie.dll volume scattering in the Non-sequnetial Component.  I find that the rays that original from the sequential system don't seem to scatter in the Non-Sequential Component.  Should this type of a setup work generally?
