Hello,I am designing a Fresnel rhomb prism as a half wave plate alternative using ZnSe at 4-9um.I calculated the phase differences as a function of TIR angle and created a polygon .POB file, inserted it as a non-sequential object and verified with CODA 123 that the polarization rotated 90 deg.However, I tested this out across the wavelength range with no change to the merit function, while the analytical formula expects a 0.3deg difference due to dispersion.Another issue I am having is that I don’t really know how to tolerance a polygon. The only idea I have come up with is to make many objects, “Monte-Carloing” it myself.Please share any insights or guidance. Note:The additional reflection facets at half angles are for PBS coating, the prism will be used as a beam combiner. I intended to simply use a table coating file Tp Ts Rp Rs, and make two configurations for the two sorces but I am unsure if this is correct for a tilted incidence angle or if there is a better way to model the bea

 Hello Zemax community, I have a source (ZBF) file which is Gaussian-like in one axis and Lorentzian-like in the other. In addition to the ZBF file, I also have the x and y cross-section far-field angular distribution of power (something like a representative goniometric scan in both axes). Source near-field: Source far-field:​I am re-imaging the source through an optimized lens pair, with the goal of understanding the resulting image plane characteristics - primarily understanding if/how diffraction effects through the lens pair might result in an enlarged / rounded spot. Initially, I thought POP would be suitable, but the NA of the source seems to be too large, so I am looking for another way to accurately characterize the resulting image. Looking for some advice on a good alternative approach. - Partially coherent image analysis starting with the ZBF as object? - Ray optics / Huygens PSF? Is there a way to mimic the Lorentzian-like profile in one axis only for the apodization factor

Hi everyone,I am trying to design a 5x Continuous zoom system from scratch. I have tried making paraxial optics with 5x magnification with 4 paraxial lens groups but I am not getting the results (I got focal length of each group from paraxial optics then I tried to design each group separately). 

I am trying to do tolerance analysis of a system having multi-configuration. I have created default TDE with parameters. when I am running tolerancing, a error related to TTHI operand is showing. How to resolve this issue. 

I am doing some ray tracing through some simple GRIN lenses.If I take GRIN3.dll, depending on what I set to n0, I get different results for intensity with ray splitting on, and the ray passing through the center of the lens (so no bending occurring). Here is an example: n0 = 1, 100% transmitted n0 = 1.5, 96% transmittedn0 = 2, 88% transmittedThis occurs with all GRIN dll’s (not just GRIN3), and does not occur with simple ray splitting. It functions as normal without ray splitting on. This doesn’t make physical sense to me. Why is more light reflected from a light ray at normal incidence at higher refractive index without specifying any specific scatter model, split model? As a note, I do not have any scattering, volume physics, coatings, etc in these.It appears to be some kind of index dependent ray reflection? No idea why that is happening. Hi,I tried to evaluate astigmatism of curved tilted mirror in sequential mode. Astigmatism is obvious, but Seidel coefficients are zero. Also in Merit Function Editor parameter “ASTI” returns zero. Maybe the reason is that Seidel coefficients ignore the coordinate breaks for tilting.Did not find any topic describing this fact.Does anyone have a solution for getting Astigmatism of focusing system with tilted objects?

Hello I’m trying to implement importance sampling in a model in order to increase the amount of scattered light toward a certain region. I’ve read the documentation and the tutorial online as well as looked at the sample file provided https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005488461-How-to-use-importance-sampling-to-model-scattering-efficiently I’ve also looked at the sample file in: Samples\Non-sequential\Scattering\Importance Sampling Demonstration.ZMX In both cases above, the amount of scattered rays in a region of interest increases as is desired. However I have encountered the opposite where the amount of rays decrease. I’ve attached a toy system in which this is observed. Could someone please help me clarify what is going on? In this model I have two systems in one separated by a barrier. Each system as a source that scatters on a rectangle object modeled as a Lambertian scatterer. In the upper system I use Importance Sampling with a target sphere at the detector matchin

When using polarization with “random polarisation”, how are the polarization created and assigned to the simulted rays ? Is there a 2pi random distribution that is sampled for each ray’s polarization state ?

I want to fix the zoom, pan, and orientation of the geometry in my NSC shaded model, so when I update the position of one of the objects, it doesn’t change back to the default layout.  Is there a way to do this?  

I am running a POP analysis of a system that has a zernike standard phase surface. I am trying to add defocus using this surface and observe it in the POP phase output. I am able to see small magnitudes of defocus but once I try to add 10 waves or more the POP output does not appear to reflect the added defocus. Is this a sampling issue or something else? 0 waves of defocus1 wave of defocus5 waves of defocus10 waves of defocus 

The zemax part designer has a ‘Expose Point’ that allows the sketch point to be directly modified and optimized from the non-sequential component editor. I’d like to do the same with the angle in a ‘ROATE’ command in the script. Is that possible? Or is the another approach that I should use?Thanks in advance for any help,John 

Hi, I want to design a schmidt prism in seq mode. How should I approach? 

We use volumetric diffusing plastic shell or plate for color mixing the LED array. The info from the vendor is just material and % of added particles like SiO2. Substrate is typical PMMA or similar plastic.Give just info like this what’s the best or simple way to simulate this in Zemax NSC? I’m thinking of Mie or H-Greenstein model but not sure how to set up parameters there with just info like this.

I created a TIR lens by creating two objects (one big aspheric lens and a smaller cylinder volume) and forming Boolean subtraction A-B to make void hole through the lens. This is typical shape of TIR lens for LED.Problem here is that Zemax makes error when ray source placed too close the lens in the region of aspheric lens volume although it’s where it is cut off by the cylinder volume. Normally we disable base elements of Boolean object. It works only if the ray source is placed outside the base lens volume. Is there any way to get around this issue in Zemax? 

Hi all,I have a question for detector in non-sequential mode. We often use ‘nit’ to evalute the display system, but I did not find how to change the unit to ‘nit’ for detector in non-sequential mode like LightTools did, so is there anyway that it can be directly displayed in Zemax or we have to export the data from Zemax and do some conversion?Thank you,Kaden

Hi, I have been tring to reproduce the phase produce by the Zernike standard phase, and I believe there is an issue with the terms 7 and 8, corresponding with vertical and horizontal coma. Theoretically they should be Z7=sqrt(8)*(3*ro.^3-2*ro).*sin(phi);Z8=sqrt(8).*(3*(ro.^3)-2*ro).*cos(phi); However, after a lot of headache I realized that they behave like:Z7=sqrt(8)*(3*ro.^3).*sin(phi);Z8=sqrt(8).*(3*(ro.^3)).*cos(phi); Ithought maybe it a different stardard, but in the original paper referred R. Noll, "Zernike polynomials and atmospheric turbulence", J. Opt. Soc. Am., Vol. 66, No. 3, p207 (1976)The definition is sqrt(8)*(3*ro.^3-2*ro).*sin(phi). It is pretty obvious noticing that radially is just a cubic term without the linear term when you represent the wavefront map. It does like the 7th (or 8th) order zernike represented in many places. This is very surprising. Is it possible to to model a rotationally-symmetric Fresnel lens that’s bent into a cylindrical shape?If I understand correctly,Extended Fresnel doesn’t allow for a cylindrical substrate Cylinder Fresnel doesn’t allow for rotationally-symmetric Fresnel features Fresnel 1 & 2 require a flat substrateThanks!  

I was eager to try out this new feature in 2024 R2.02, but I don’t think it’s working properly. I tried exporting a simple file, one OAP mirror with 9 fields defined. When opening the file in SpaceClaim, I did not see any ray footprints on the mirror. I tried all 4 file type options, and none seem to do what I would expect. Can somebody explain the intended workflow and outcome here?Thanks,Sean

Hi zemaxers, I am trying to do a prism surface accuracy simulation in non-sequential mode as illustration below.I used a compound lens to create the prism, but found that it just combine two surfaces as a rectangle object.  it seems the compound lens ignore the tilt parameter in the surface.my questionhow to set the surface tilt in  the compound lens? except the compound lens method, is there any other way to do a surface accuracy effects in non-sequential mode? Thanks Yang   

Hello,I am new here. I believe that the exit pupil is a plane where PARY (0,1) (0,0) is exactly zero (or a very small numerical error). However, in the simple example attached, I read EXPP = -25.26 µm. This difference from zero is bigger than a numerical error. Could you explain why the exit pupil is not exactly where is should be?Thank you,Olivier

I’m having some trouble running a tolerancing script in OpticStudio, where I continually get the “nominal criterion cannot be computed” error when I attempt to run the script. I’ve tracked it down to a CPAR compensator I’ve defined on a Zernike Fringe Phase surface. I’m attempting to use the phase surface Z9 term to null the system spherical for each Monte Carlo file in the tolerance analysis.I’ve confirmed the compensator is defined correctly (CPAR Surf# Param23), and I’m able to set the same parameter to a variable and optimize in the nominal design file, so I can’t understand why the tolerance script cannot implement this as a compensator. If I comment out the CPAR line, the nominal criteria evaluates and the script runs without issue. Can anyone explain why I’m unable to use this compensator?
