I cannot get the Tilt About X or Y to insert new tilt angle.  And I would like to read from a .txt to do the same but cannot get the write method to initially set or change the Tilt About X - here is some of my code. Hi, We are using the python interface to ZOS-API and for some reason it is crashing out. But I don't know how to use zos-api even if I watch YouTube. So I ask for help from the forum. Hello, Im trying to access to the surface sag data from the analysis menu using Matlab ZOS-API. I was able to generate a new analysis window using 'TheSystem.Analyses.New_Analysis(ZOSAPI.Analysis.AnalysisIDM.SurfaceSag)” However I don’t know how to select a surface and save the surface sag matrix. Could please provide an example on how to do that?

I’m trying to put together a Matlab script using the ZOS-API. I’ve been following the material in the Zemax Knowledge Articles in MyZemax. What I want to do is gather data from the Physical Optics Propagation and iterate over a handful of different conditions, but retain the phase and irradiance data from each iteration. Using the TheSystem.Analyses, there is no option for Physical Optics. I was wondering if you could provide some insight into this. If you need more information, please let me know. Hello Zemax Community, I am struggling to navigate the OpticStudio API in MATLAB. What I'm attempting to do shouldn't be that difficult. I think my issue is I'm not an object oriented programmer, much less a competent software developer so I'm really struggling. First thing I tried was consulting several helpful examples that successfully demonstrated grabbing analysis data through MATLAB. I've run and studies these and can grab wavefans, MTF and spot diagrams. Although the last one looked like it used the ray trace engine directly and not the spot diagram analysis function. The specific example that I think would get me started is if I had example code showing how to pull wavefront maps at various fields and wavelengths in the 28deg double Gauss sample lens file. I found the analysis method 'New_WavefrontMap' and can create the object in Matlab but can't figure out how to actually get the data. It does not appear as easy as grabbing a full double array.

I have a simple lens diagram where my goal is to decenter one of the two elements, and record the change in the Ray X Center value of the footprint diagram. I have found how to view/change the Decenter X column of the coordinate break using TheSystem.LDE.GetSurfaceAt(2).GetCellAt(12).get_Value() and xx.DoubleValue =.  Next, I need to pull out the value of Ray X Center from the footprint diagram after propogating the changes made by altering the decenter. Either through grabbing the single value, or even saving the entire footprint diagram text values. I have found what I believe is the correct location for this data at TheSystem.Analyses.Get_AnalysisAtIndex(2), as xx.get_GetAnalysisName() returns 'FootprintSettings'. I have not yet been able to find a method (through tab completing in PyCharm) that returns the data in any way.  How can I pull out the footprint diagram information?

When we see the following error using C# for ZOS API User Extension, the most common reason is we opened a tool and didn't well close it before open it again.   For example, in the second built-in sample code, we can see there is a line that calls the funciton close() to close the ray trace tool. The same applies to many other tools like ILocalOptimization, IHammerOptimization, IGlobalOptimization, INSCRayTrace, ITolerancing, IConvertToNSCGroup ... etc. If we try to open the RayTrace tool again before close the previous one, the error will show.   The other similar reason this may happen is we terminate the application, for example using the [X] button, unusually before the tool is closed.   Note there is a property called TheSystem.Tools.CurrentTool. It's convenient if we can check it and close if needed when finished the API code like below.

I tried to open .zmx files and raytrace them, but I got an error code: Error: Dot indexing is not supported for variables of this type.         normUnPolData = rayTracer.CreateNormUnpol(nRays,realRayType,nSurf);    I think that when I open another .zmx file, the 'Open Batch RayTrace' code doesn't seem to be updated. I'm using the ZOS API to work with ZAR files our engineers produce. We're using ZAR files since there are CAD files associated with the ZMX file. I want to open a ZAR file. There aren't any examples of how to do this, and `TheSystem.Tools.OpenRestoreZAR` isn't well documented; for example, `get_ArchiveFile` isn't in the docs. Hello, I did not like the Standalone Application for the Matlab API which is generated from OpticStudio. This is why I wrote a 'ZemaxStandalone' class, which is based on a naked generated Standalone File. In my opinion, it makes the API a lot more usable and you dont have to write a new Standalone script for each of your appliucations. You only need to create an Instance of this class by a given filepath string. The Class file should be well documented. Have fun with an easier life!   Cheers, Nils

Here I would like to open the 'Scatter Function Viewer', adjust my scatter model and everything else to get a rough lower estimate of my reflection by the total power. I am having trouble changing settings in the ZOS API when trying to do a single ray trace in Python. Hi, i am new to Zemax and i tried to connect my lense system with Matlab through the ZOS-API interactive extension. As i run the template script the 'TheApplication' Object with all its properties should appear, but thats not the case. It is just showing in which folder it is found and nothing else. Furthermore i do not know how to load the lense system into this matlab file. Is there anything i missed out? If somebody could help a beginner that would be really nice. Best wishes, Julia.

I am trying to write an interactive extension using the COM (not .NET) framework, and need to change some settings. I have read through (and watched the videos) regarding navigating the API Syntax Help tool, and have spent considerable time scanning the forum and the sample code for guidance. Hello Everyone, I am new to Zemax. In my current Project I need to produce a couple (>60000 ;) ) Spot Diagrams for training of NNs. I have used the interactive connection with MATLAB and I can run the simulations in corresponding parameter space. The Problem that I am facing right now is that I cannot export the images from the Spot Diagram Window. I mean I can export the text file of the Spot Diagram (the one with Field Coordinates, Image coordinates, RMS Spot Radius, etc.) but I need the patterns which are visible in the plotted graph. I have already tried to modify the routine in 'MATLABStandalone_22_seq_spot_diagram.m' , but the shape of the resulting graphs are different from the ones Zemax shows.  Is there an easy way, like a Export method that I am missing? I am writing an Interactive Extension with python (following this KB article). The python script generates a Grid Sag Surface data file (following the format and instructions in these two links: here and here). This file loads properly when manually using the Import tool in the Surface Properties drop-down, as explained in the first link.  The goal is to automate this, and I have struggled to figure out the python code to do the import. Based on the second link, I tried the following:   gSurf1 = TheLDE.GetSurfaceAt(5)   # Surface 5 is the grid sag   gSurf1.ImportData.ImportDataFile(gFile)   # Load in sag data This did not throw an error. Nor did it work. Nothing changed in the prescription. I have written several interactive extensions in the past, so I think that the basic procedure is Ok. Hello, i am currently working on a Python program to automate as many process steps as possible in scattered light analysis. I don't have so much experience in Zemax API programming yet and have tried to get familiar with it using the example programs, the knowladgebase and ZOS help. My CAD file is a SolidWorks assembly, which I also inserted without any problems, but I would like to use the Explode command to split it into the individual parts for a better path analysis. Here my question is how to unzip my file correctly and if there is a more detailed article than the videos about the ZOS API Help, because this is not enough for me to understand the command structure. A second point is, I would like to have my data from PathAnalysis available as data in Python for evaluation, here I also did not manage to understand the program structure. So far I have only been able to make it useful by saving it as text first and reading it in afterwards. With kind regards Christian
