Here is my most-used chunk of API code, which reads and displays the basic information in the Lens Data Editor (LDE).  I’ve highlighted the parts of this that are API code, which can easily be translated into other languages. (See the linked article below.)  Everything not highlighted is specific to Mathematica, so one would need to find the equivalent functions, etc., in Python, Matlab, etc.   

Just a quick note on converting API code between Mathematica, Python, and Matlab.  API code will be nearly identical in all languages, so it’s fairly easy to convert code from one to the other.  Here’s an example of getting the surface type from the LDE.Mathematica:mySurface = primarySystem@LDE@GetSurfaceAt[2]@Type@ToString[“”]Python or Matlab:mySurface = primarySystem.LDE.GetSurfaceAt(2).Type.ToString()And a table of the differences:Mathematica reserves the “_” character for variables, so an upper-case U is used instead.  For example, in Mathematica, a new FFT MTF analysis can be launched this way:newWin = primarySystem@Analyses@NewUFftMtf[]But in Matlab or Python, this is:newWin = primarySystem.Analyses.New_FftMtf()

Hi,I’m trying to extract data of Huygens PSF in Matlab through the API.I want to get the center coordinates and I thought the HeaderData will include it. But looks like the HeaderData is empty. PSF_Results = PSF_Win.GetResults();string(PSF_Results.HeaderData.Lines) ans =   1×0 empty string array The MetaData and the DataGrids seems to work fine and contains the data.Am I missing something? Is there other place that I can pull the coordinates from there? Thanks!

Type codes for modifysettings are listed in the Zemax help files under: The Programming Tab > About the ZPL > KEYWORDS (about the zpl) > MODIFYSETTINGS (keywords) However, Geometric MTF is not listed here. My question is: what are the type codes for the geometric MTF analysis window?In case these do not exist, how would I go about modifying the settings for the geometric MTF analysis window via ZOSAPI?

I need to read out the X half width and Y half width of a Detector Rectangle. The above code used to work but now it says no AttributeError: 'IObject' object has no attribute 'XHalfWidth'. Could you tell me a way to circumvent this problem. 

I’m trying to run a simple macro to test printing to screen:PRINT “Hello world”When I run this, all that appears is a text viewer saying “Executing path/to/macro...” and nothing else. I tried adding OUTPUT SCREEN before the print statement to make sure the statement prints to screen, but same issue.Any advice?

Recently I am developing an internal software by using c# ZOS-API dll. I have chosen .Net 8.0 for my application. After adding the refrences of ZOS-API, it gives me error due to incompatibility of frameworks. ZOS-API has been developed by using .Net framework v4.6.2. If I build my assembly with net framework 4.8, it works fine, but not supports in net 8.0. Why aren't they developing dlls with Microsoft .Net (support cross platform) instead of .Net framework? I have also seen that the headless remoting connection is taking long time. Why aren't they using modern remote procedure framework like gRPC?

Hi,I would like to write a macro that runs the surface slope analysis and outputs the “Text” tab results (X-Coord, Y-Coord, and Slope) to a file. I was thinking of using GetTextFile, but I don’t see a string code for surface slope cross section (or slope either). What’s the best way to do this?Thank you,-Jen

Hello, I am working on designing lenses (Intraocular lens) of a power range and each power has unique merit function. Title. I can easily get the entry/exit points into a GRIN lens via tracing rays to a surface using SingleRayNormUnpol() and BatchRayTrace.However, this only gives me the entry/exit points into a surface. Is there a way to get information out about the beam path within a GRIN optic via ZOS-API?As an additional note, the GRIN optic is modelled via a custom *.dll extension I developed (not a ZEMAX Gradient 1-12 surface).My alternative is to write my own GRIN raytracer for the intermediate steps.

Hello guys, I have a multimode fiber of 1mm core (1000 um) of 0.22 NA. I will be using this fiber to deliver my laser beam of wavelength either 450 nm or 530 nm. The beam after the fiber will be collimated and then will be refocused. The final goal to have a spot size of 50 - 60 um at the focus. I am beginer in zemax and any help would be appreciated. If any of you had done similar project in the past it would be helpful if you could share the file and i could use it as starting point. Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone,I'm trying to extract the combined Huygens Point Spread Function (PSF) of a multiconfiguration system using either ZPL or the ZOS-API. In OpticStudio, I can achieve this directly by selecting "All" in the configuration button under the Huygens PSF settings, which provides the result I need. However, I'm having trouble replicating this setting in ZPL or ZOS-API, as I haven't been able to find an equivalent command or setting to retrieve the combined PSF programmatically.Has anyone here managed to access this setting through ZPL or ZOS-API, or is there an alternative approach to obtaining the combined Huygens PSF across configurations?Thanks in advance for any guidance or examples you might be able to provide!Cheers!

We recently implemented the Geometric Image Analysis in ZOSPy 1.30. While doing so, we noticed that the setting PlotScale seems not to exposed in the ZOS-API for this analysis. Is that correct?

Hi Everyone,I would like to ask how to use zbftilt? The help document reads a bit confusing: This keyword requires the name of the ZBF file and four numbers. The phase of the beam is modified by a phase angle given by θ = ( x – cx )tx + ( y – cy )ty . The cx and cy values are the center of the phase tilt, and tx and ty are the slopes of the tilt in units of radians per lens unit length. The coordinates x and y refer to positions within the beam file, with the center coordinate (x = 0, y = 0) being at the point (nx/2 + 1, ny/2 + 1) where nx and ny are the number of points in the x and y directions. The length units in the ZBF file are converted automatically to the current lens units. The resulting data is written back to the same file name. If I want to rotate an elliptical beam mode by 90°, how should I write it?Thanks!Di

I have created a custom object based on the sample of the HalfCylinder.DLL object. So far, this works. I would like to return a value directly to the non-sequential component editor. E.g. for the half cylinder, add a field volume and return the current volume. This way during optimization, I can control the volume of the cylinder without using extra scripts to use the volume. I tried to use an extra field, and then attribute a value inside the code:in the given half cylinder, in line 64 (just before the switch(code)):data[104] = volume;but the volume field in zemax’ non-sequential component editor is not updated.I hope to get along the idea of I want to do. For the volume, I could use a script in zemax, but imagine it is value that I calculate in cpp anyway, it would be more efficient to reuse this. Is this possible?
