Hello, I have a file with CAD objects, Boolean Native objects, and a simple optical system.Every time I try to save an image of the NSC Shaded Model Window OpticStudio crashes.  I have tried to save as .bmp and .png which both make it crash.  .jpeg is the only format that will save the image without crashing.Is this a known issue or is there a setting making it crash?I tried to change hardware and software blending as well.Thank you.

Hi, I set up a hemisphere detector polar. I want it to be a Lambertian target as well. I set it to be reflective, scattering model to be Lambertian, scatter fraction to be 1, number of rays to be 5, and importance sampling. But I don’t think it is working. Could you show me how to set up this correctly.

Hello, I am trying to add irregularities to a Q-type asphere surface. The way I do it is by inserting a Zernike standard sag surface, and setting it as a composite surface, so that my Q-type asphere is the composite base.As a first step, I did not change the Zernike surface, so that its sag is 0 across all the surface. I set its clear semi diameter to the same value of the Q-type surface (both are user defined).I expect that because the Zernike sag is 0, the system will not be affected by defining the composite stack. However, when I set it as a composite surface, it changes the ray tracing and the system is affected. It seems that the power of the lens changes, although I did not change the sag (as far as I’m aware). Has anybody faced such problem? How can it be solved?Thank you.  

Hi, I just had a micro-optic measured (outsourced) to obtain it’s true form.I got back a RoC, and 36 Zernike coefficients (Standard, Fringe and Annular).I’m trying to plug into Zemax - but I’m having a hard time understanding several things:Zemax still gives the Even Asphere terms - are they not described by the Zernikes? Would I need those terms measured separately? What number do I put in for the Norm Radius?Thanks, Eli

Hi there,I have a VCSEL laser diode with divergence angles of 8 and 24 degrees. I need to collimate the beam. In sequential mode, I set the field according to the angles and used a THORLABS aspheric lens suitable for the laser diode. However, I am unable to achieve collimation for both the 8 and 24-degree angles simultaneously. In theory, the aspheric lens should collimate the beam. How should I simulate this?

This is an image of a ray going through a lens in ZEMAX.  The model is sequential, and so obviously the ray cannot do what is pictured.  Many of the adjacent rays have the same problem, but most of the rays in the model do not show this problem --- this is a ray from near the edge of the image. 

This absolutely mystifies me.  I export a lens file in STEP format, then bring up another Zemax, go to purely Non-sequential, and try to load the STEP file I just created back in so I can see how it exported.  Why am I getting this error?

Dear all,I’m using the BSDF-Scatter-Model to simulate surface-scattering behavior of a flat target in NSQ-Mode.I use the *.bsdf-file “LambertianBlack_IR.bdsf” since we use this material in our experiments. The setup of the optical simulation is depicted below. In our experiment the outgoing transmitter beam and the receiver are directed at the same angle towards the targetThe angle of specular reflection in our experiments is basically 0°, because our AOI in the experiment is 0°,My Question: How does interpolation work for AOI<10° ? Motivation: When I rotate the target as depicted above, I get a sharp decrease in signal from 0° to 5 degrees, as can be seen in the graph below. I’m not sure this is physically correct...   Note:The article below describes the usage of bsdf-file and comments on some aspects of interpolation between data points. This should be pretty simple to do but I can’t figure it out.  In a .ZPL I am trying to set the value of the Tilt about Z for Coordinate Break surface #12.  It seems that this is PARAMETER 5. So I use the command:SETSURFACEPROPERTY  12, 5 123.456 nothing happens,  It is so simple in CodeV.CDE S12 123.456So archaic that Optic Studio uses “parameter number” instead of a simple keyword like ADE, BDE, CDE for tilt. CDE is tilt about Z axis (rotation)

Hi to all!I have been trying to focus an extended source. In the context, I tried collimating it and then tried focusing it using a best form lens. Dear all I design an optical fiber (INF3: CORE refractive index = 1.489, CLADDING refractive index: 1.476 at wavelength 3.3 um) and displace a Cylinder Volume(the object #5) on slight air gap region(0.1 mm).I also try to set material of this object as Au. However, I cannot find the way to add absorption coefficient(‘k’ of ‘n + ik’) of material. In material catalog, I could only add real part of refractive index vs wavelength. Is it possible to set absorptive material in Zemax? (I already know how to use coating in absolute thickness. But I wonder if the cylinder is coated in radial direction, inside or outside)   Any other recommendations for absorptive material simulation are welcome !Thank you Optical FiberNSC Component Editor (object #5 is Au Cylinder) 

Hi All, I used .ZPL macro in ISET code. This code can be extracted the distortion,RI,CRA, and PSF. However, when I run the macro, multi-wavelengths are not extracted and psf is not extracted with the error message in the capture below. Could anyone debug these problem? thank you.

I have run the optimization wizard already, based on “Angular Image quality” at the image surface, and the system looks good, and my beam is collimated. However the physical optics propagation has has by beam width at ~20mm.  Is there a way to  collimate based on physical optics propagation?  Thank you so much for any advice!

Now we have X ray source, few windows (of material Beryllium, gold, Lead...etc.) in the schematics. Now I’m struggling to model these X ray materials. Hello, In sequential mode I am trying to optimizing a lens with Geometric Image Analysis. The light has to pass several apertures. It seems that the optimization algorithm is not finding the optimal solution. I suspect the reason for this, are the hard edges of the apertures. This is also described in the manual in section “Optimizing with the IMAE Operand”. It is written there to use a dll. Now I am stuck. I could not figure out how to apply a dll to an aperture. I am thankful for any adviceBest regardsMarcel
