single mode fiber

Forum|alt.badge.img

Dear Zemax team,

I would need to model a single mode fiber with a 9 micron core and a NA 0.22 in a non sequential design. I envisioned to use a source Gaussian with beam size of 4.5e-3 mm, but I cannot understand the meaning of the Position parameter and I cannot figure out to which value I should set it in order to reproduce a 0.22 beam. Could you please help me with this?

Thanks

Best regards

Gabriele

Hi Gabriele,

The position parameter sets the distance between the location of your source, and the virtual point source from which the rays appear to emanate. Something like this sketch:

Since you know the Numerical Aperture and the Size of the Beam, you can calculate Theta and the position distance Numerical aperture - Wikipedia
