can I move the image plane position?

is the image plane considered as the focal plane in zemax?
If yes, can I move the image plane position? The reason for this is that I want to extract and experiment with pap in a state where the focus is not correct.

Hi Kivahan,

 

In OpticStudio, the image plane is often identified as the last surface of your system. However, it is not the focal plane. The focal plane location is determined through paraxial raytracing. There are many ressources on the internet about how the focal plane location is calculated, this one gives you an introduction to the basic concepts. However, in OpticStudio, you can press Analyze..Reports..Cardinal Points and the focal plane locations get calculated for you:

Note that there are typically two focal planes in a system, one for each direction the rays are traveling through the system (from left to right or vice versa).

It is totally fine to move the image plane location to an out-of-focus state for further analysis.
