I want to model a micro-lens array in NSC mode (clear aperture < pitch). I tried to use normal lens and array, but this create an array of lens with cylindrical sides (the space between two adjacent lenses is air) which will introduce TIR when AOI of rays exceed critical angle. In real case, the micro-lens array has one side flat and the other side an array of aspherical lenses with circular clear aperture, the substrate of the micro-lens array is a continuous slab so TIR won't happen between neighboring lenses (the space between two adjacent lenses is the lens substrate). How could I model the real case more accurately so TIR won't happen when light enter from one lens to the neighboring lens? I initially tried to use the lenslet array 1, but it has rectangular-shaped lens which is also not the same as what I want to model.
Has anyone experienced this? The 3D layout gets stuck and unusable. Forcing user to open up new 3D layout window.
Hi,So I’ve been trying to model a system that involves using light that passes through some optical elements into the back pupil of a microscope objective, focuses onto a mirror, and then reflects back through the objective (Thorlabs - TL10X-2P 10X Super Apochromatic Microscope Objective, 0.5 NA, 7.77 mm WD). Both the forward and reverse blackbox files are directly available for download on Thorlabs website, but my attempts so far to actually model using them haven’t been successful unfortunately. The first pass works as expected, since that’s pretty much just taking the already available forward blackbox file. The issue comes with regards to trying to correctly define the backwards path (or if it’s even possible and instead I have to try and break the simulation up into two different setups for each pass). I’ve tried a variety of attempts that end up with either none of the reversed rays seemingly interacting with the reverse blackbox, or where the spot diagram for the image plane wil
Hello,Is there an operand to get the maximum ray angle impinging onto the image plane (relative to surface normal) in sequential mode ?I know about the operands listed in help section Constraints on Real Ray Data, but they require setting normalized pupil coordinates Px/Py first. Marko
I am trying to understand what criteria dictates Zemax to round up decimals. For instance: in the Aperture setting below. I inserted the following values and got rounded up valuesX-Half Width: 8.325 → Zemax value = 8.325 Y-Half Width: 10.125 → Zemax value = 10.13Why does Zemax treat the first entry differently from the second? It shouldn’t round up 8.325 differently than 10.125. But, it does. Can someone please explain to me if this is a possible bug or there is an internal logic that dictates how round-ups happen in Zemax. Thanks - ASuku
Hello,I’m using ZPL to setup a non-sequential component in a sequential file. I’m able to add and set new objects to have a model glass solve type. But I can’t find how to set the model glass index (Nd) value. Thanks in advance for your help,John
Hi,I am using paraxial lens as an objective to focus scanned light beam. Before I added mirror to the system, the paraxial lens was focusing, but after mirror was added, the light was defocused. I thought “quick focus” may help, but instead I got negative focus. What I am doing wrong? Regards,Marzanna
Michael Cheng provides a great how-to when using optically fabricated holograms (OFH). I downloaded the associated zip file from his post (here). The files are saved in the ZMX format. When you load the playback ZMX file, it will throw an error message saying that it can’t find the construction files even though they are correctly named in the comment line of the LDE. It appears that the reason is because they are saved as ZMX files and not the newer ZOS file. It appears that this is recent change since as I don’t remember having this issue before I installed the Ansys version of Zemax OpticStudio (currently running 2022 R2.02). I guess this is a bug; however, I don’t know that for certain. Is there a reason that Zemax can’t use the ZMX format for the OFH surface?(Update 1, 2023-02-20): I have done a fresh install and now Zemax is asking for the ZMX format instead of the ZOS format when I load and OFH playback file. I have tried toggling the default file format between ZOS and ZMX; howe
