Upgraded to 20.2.2 and how software wants my license and activation code.

I recently upgraded from 20.2.1 to 20.2.2.  When I restarted OpticStudio, the license manager wants me to enter my license number and activation code, as if this is a new installation.  I was able to log in to zemax.com and retrieve my license number, but why an activation code and where do I get it?

Thanks,

-dave

Hello David! I saw your email as well.

You don’t need a new activation code and licenses can only be activated once anyway so this isn't possible. Normally, upgrading retains the existing license. The license is still installed, you just need to fix this issue to make it show up again.

Check this troubleshooting article in the “unable to view a previously activated license” section for some tips to get up and running again.

Let me know if you get this working or need any more help.

This lead to the answer, thanks.

The complete answer appears to be dated, though.  Not all of the screenshots and exe files in the solution are still valid.

Thanks for your help.

Good afternoon!

Great that you are working again!  A few of the screenshots i know could use an addition / change due to the the 19.4+ Zemax license manager redesign, but what executables or other instructions are wrong? I want to make sure everything lines up.

It looks like I misread the instruction.

From here:

I had to follow this link to repair the HASP license:

https://my.zemax.com/en-US/Knowledge-Base/kb-article/?ka=KA-01614#repair

Where the following was given.  I couldn't find the licensemanager folder, but I missed the highlighted text when I read it.

If OpticStudio is installed on the machine, open the file 'C:\program files\Zemax Opticstudio\opticstudio_prerequisites.exe. If only the Zemax License Manager is installed on the machine (keyserver machines only), open the file 'C:\program files\zemax licensemanager\licensemanager_prerequisites.exe.' Both of these executable files will reinstall the licensing runtime as well as other components needed. You should see a window similar to that shown below.

Hi David,

Thanks for the update here! Happy to hear that the section you were looking at had the information you needed. It's always good for us to make sure our articles are up to date, especially the Licensing and Install-focused articles.

Please let us know if you have any further questions on that or any other topic, though! We'll be happy to help any way we can.
