Yes, it's possible to assign different coatings to different faces of a CAD object in Non-sequential mode. You need to go to Object Properties\Coat/Scatter tab to assign coatings, as shown below.

I solved the problem. I was using a .STL and the coating flag was disabled, but using a .STEP instead it is enabled.
