Grid Gradient on Non-sequential Object

Intro: I want to implement a 3D information of refractive index in either a rectangular volume or sphere in non-sequential system. I made a GGD file that goes with the Grid Gradient DLL index type in ZOS. I am imaging this object using a microscope system (which works well for any object with the in-built GRIN index profiles).

Problem: If I have a constant index across all the 3D coordinates, the image of the object looks as I expect. But if I have a gradient or a sharp index jump in the data, it fails to run the ray tracing. I can see it to be a problem for a sharp jump in index, but I expected it to work for a linearly changing index.

Any help or suggestions in this respect or examples of implementation of grid gradient index to non-sequential objects will be really helpful.

Thank you.
