Question

Tip/tilt compensator operators for tolerancing a telescope

Hi all,

I am relatively new to tolerancing in OpticStudio and currently trying to tolerance an RC telescope consisting of two mirrors and two field corrector lenses using machining and optical specs. I would like to understand what distribution of performance (in this case RMS spot radius) one can expect for a series of such telescopes. In the physical system, the back focus, primary-secondary separation and secondary tip/tilt can be adjusted. I have a few questions regarding the implementation of the tolerancing:

  1. So far, I am including two compensators (back focus and primary-secondary separation) in the tolerance data editor. Typical tolerancing examples only include one compensator, so I’m wondering if it’s alright to use more than one (as this corresponds to the physical system)?
  2. In addition, I should also include the tip/tilt of the secondary, but it is not clear to me how this is included in the tolerance data editor, and which operator to use.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kevin
