Hi all,
sorry if I use the community for this question but I have a doubt:

If in a datasheet I have a half power angle value of x degrees, does this mean that the detector that reads the 1/2 value is at that particular angle or is the angle indicated by the datasheet double?

I enclose a datasheet of the material in question and an example.

According to the datasheet, HPA is equal to 21° according to DIN 5036, but the 21° refer to the total diffusion "cone" or to the position of
a detector with respect to the direction of the light beam?

Thanks to all.

Hi Luca,

I’m not quite sure whether I get your question right. Are you asking whether the half-power angle according to DIN 5036 refers to the HALF or FULL cone angle?

Best regards
Benjamin

Yes, exactly…

According to DIN 5036, the half-power angle is a half cone angle (see section 5.2 of the norm). It is specified for perpendicular incidence on the surface. Hence, the half-power angle is the angle (measured against the surface normal) where the luminance takes on half the value measured at 0 degrees (measured against the surface normal).
