I am trying to model a series of prisms in non sequential mode in Optics studio. The flow of the design is as follows.
- I send a beam polarised along \hat{y}, and it is incident normally on a Calcite prism (with OA along \hat{z}) as shown below. The ray does not undergo refraction (as expected), and has a refractive index n_o.
- Next, the ray is incident on another Calcite prism (with OA along \hat{y}), and hence the beam undergoes refraction (since it now has a refractive index n_e) and follows a path as shown.
Now, as per my understanding of birefringence, if I were to use a beam polarised along \hat{x}, and keep everything in the model fixed, except the OA of the second prism is now along \hat{x}, the beam should follow the same trajectory as before since the ray has a refractive index n_e in the second prism just as before. However, I see a discrepancy and the rays follow a different trajectory as shown below.
Is this expected or am I making a mistake while modeling?
