Hello! I’m curious if anybody can recommend strategies for modeling coupling efficiencies of sources with angular dependences into multimode fiber. Ideally this would work in sequential mode. Thank you in advance!

Hello @liz_strong,

Thanks for your question here on the Community Forums!

In sequential mode, you can take advantage of the Geometric Image Analysis feature to compute multi-mode fiber coupling efficiency. This is discussed in detail in this knowledgebase article:
How to model multi-mode fiber coupling – Knowledgebase (zemax.com)
However, the source modeling capabilities are limited in sequential mode compared to the different source types available in NSC mode. For your reference, you may find a detailed discussion about the available source models in NSC here:
Light sources used in illumination design – Knowledgebase (zemax.com)
Then, the basic idea would be to calculate coupling efficiency as a ratio between the number of incident ray in a given NA at the fiber and the total number of launched ray.

Best,
Csilla
