OpticStudio includes the feature of geometric line/edge spread and FFT line/edge spread, which are useful analyses for measuring beam width. For example, consider using a 20/80 knife edge. Geometric calculations are based on the Spot Diagram, while FFT calculations use the FFT PSF. It is helpful to read the discussion in the following forum post to gain a better understanding on line/edge spread function. Geometric ESF vs FFT ESF

How can the similar calculation be implemented for extended source results?

To calculate the geometric edge/line spread feature, statistical calculations were performed using the (built-in) Spot Diagram.

We can make additional use of the results of geometric image analysis by setting the Show option to "Spot Diagram" in GIA, then switching to the text tab to obtain the X and Y coordinates. With this raw data, we can calculate the line spread by using a histogram with set bins, and then perform a cumulative distribution function calculation to obtain a curve similar to the edge spread.
