Why coating is not working in this file?

Hi,Due to the large NA of the input (POP gaussian waist very small), I saw a lot of loss at the front surface of the 1st silicon lens. I would like to see how AR coating is helping, but found out no matter what coating I set the POP doesn’t see it. Is this because I am not using Polarization?  Thanks.

Comparing MTF in afocal mode from Zernike Fringe Sag to MTF from raw lens data

I’ve been performing some tests on a series of f=25mm Petzval objectives using a double-pass interferometer and taking the Zernike data I get from that and putting it in Zemax. I’m hoping to get an MTF to compare to the theoretical MTF from the surface data of the system used to design it. This requires me to use afocal mode to get my measurements. The Interferometer has a focal length of 1066.8 mm and a wavelength of 632.8 nm. In this, I model the Petzval system as a single mirror and put the Zernike data in that. The issue is that since I use afocal mode for my analysis, the MTF is in cy/mr but I’m not sure how to convert this to cy/mm to compare to the theoretical data, or cy/mr from the surface diagram. Simulation of optical fiber in NSC mode

Dear all There's a problem on my INF3 fiber simulation - NSC modeSimulation doesn't run well with the torus volume. There's a large amount of power loss up to 99.6% when the lights propagate from source to last detector (calculated by detector at the right end of fiber).INF3 Fiber (Rotation R = 200 mm)Detector at the right end (=last detector), Rotation R = 200 mmI just have verified that 'Total Power' varies as I change the value of 'Rotation R' from Torus Volume object.NSC editor (rotation R = 50 mm)Last detector (Tours Volume Rotation R = 50 mm)Last detector (Tours Volume Rotation R = 20 mm)I want to optimize 'Total Power' of last detector(the right end of fiber) to get maximum value. How would you stimulate your image based on a detector dimensions?

Hello there, When you design the optical layout, you arrive at the last stage where you make sure that all wavelengths are fully accommodated on the detector. Now, some important parameters of the detector include: number of pixels, pixel size (pitch), and detector's dimensions. At the IMAGE surface, How would you insert all of these parameters so that you are confident about the system's outcomes? My basic understanding is that the number of pixels & pixe pitch (size) are simulated indirectly (still figuering out how). But, how would you simulate the detector's dimensions so that you make sure your spectral range falls within the detector area? My suggestion for the Zemax developers is that they enable an interface where these detector paramerters are inserted and accounted for.   I would appreacite some insigts about the detector's parameters in Zemax. Different zemax version gave different result (NSC - total power) ?

I am currently running NSC using Zemax version 2023 R1.00 . I need to check the total power after going through a light guide and the lost energy (errors) due to geometry errors occurring. However, I use the exact same file in another PC with Zemax version 21.2, I got a totally different result.  With 2023 R1.0 - I obtain 1.66E-2 WattsWith 21.2 - I obtain 6.1158E-2 Watts The detector view also gave me different result which confuses me. Is it due to different Zemax version handle geometry error that’s why I am getting different result ? How does different Zemax version affecting these differences ?  Thank you in advance for your help

customized laser source profile for Geometric image analysis

Is there a way to customize the aperture type so the apodization type could be a combination of multiple Laguerre-Gaussian modes. Basically I want to model the output from a multi-mode VCSEL and couple it to a multi-mode fiber (so I define object space NA and apodization type as Gaussian, and use Geometric image analysis for coupling efficiency calculation, but I am wondering whether there is more accurate way to model since the output from VCSEL is not Gaussian). Thanks.

I can't understand: the ray intensity in "polarization ray trace" can be more than 1 ?

Hi, My friends, I am doing a ray polarization ray tracing in a Wollaston Prism model, the initial ray intensity is set to 1, but I found the insensity before the Prism surface becomes 1.025869078071, that means the ray energy is increased, this confused me. lens design exported to Part designer

Hello thereI have a question regarding the “Part designer” functionality. I  would like to know if it is possible to export a lens design from sequential mode into the Part designer. It seems to me that is only possible with the Premium Edition but I have not found examples of this is done.Any help will be welcome,Kind regards.Diego

Microsoft Integrated Python into Excel

Hey gang, I saw this today: https://medium.com/codex/microsoft-integrates-python-natively-into-excel-ae2d1c794babAlthough I’ve not used it myself, I like how their simple integration of a new function =PY() gives Excel access to Python and all Python goodies.Given the number of Pythonistas using OpticStudio via ZOS-API, and the great open-sourced Python links for OpticStudio (sorry I forget the name right now) it might be a relatively easy addition to make Python support built in. And a PYTH(filename$) function in ZPL would be soooo cool. Note this is already supported via the ZPL COMMAND keywordCOMMAND executable argumentsBut this would be a relatively easy way to give more polished support for Python. In particular, COMMAND launches the executable in its own thread, and does not wait for completion. I think adding waiting for completion as an option

Does OpticStudio use the paraxial approximations in its calculations?

The paraxial approximation of Snell’s Law is a first order approximation that reduces the full form of Snell’s Law from n sin(θ) = n’ sin(θ’) to the linear relationship n θ = n’ θ’ (where the primed quantities denote values after refraction), and is valid for very small angles (and thus rays that travel close to the optical axis). OpticStudio uses these paraxial rays in the computation of paraxial data such as the EFL, F/#, and entrance pupil diameter. However, OpticStudio uses the full form of Snell’s Law in most calculations and analyses because not all surfaces can be properly defined by the power of the surface at the vertex, and to account for aberrations, which are deviations from this ideal ray. While the first order approximations might have been crucial to expediting calculations done by hand, the speed of modern computers makes the difference in calculation time inconsequential when compared to the benefits of

error in NSTR operand when ignore errors is 1

I got this error only when started using the last version Ray tracing works OK and I see the image on the detector. Whet setting merit function the error message says that this is an error in NSTR operand. combining 2 objects with one having variable dimensions for optimization

I need to attach a lens object to the face of a CPC with variable thickness for optimization.  I have the z-position for the other face of the CPC and the thickness is variable.  The z position of the lens should be the z-position of the CPC + thickness.  How can I enter this in the Component Editor properties?  I will also need to set the Clear and Edge of the lens to be the same as the CPC front face which I think is the radial aperture plus length times the tangent of the angle.  Is there an easier way to measure this and how is this input into the component editor? Thanks,Niel

Mirror coating repair

Hi everyone, My question doesn’t relate to OpticStudio, but I’m hoping to find someone who can help me here so I hope you don’t mind.I have a 2-axis galvanometer scanner, and one of the mirrors seems badly oxidized. The reflection of the defective mirror is just above 0.6 (while the other one is around .94). We can still use this scanner but we are a bit on the edge with our light source power. The company who sold the scanner has discontinued this product and doesn’t want to repair a single unit. Ideally, we don’t want to buy another scanner. Do you know someone who would be willing to repair our mirror? It had a broadband visible coating.Thanks for your help and take care, David

Uncategorized Paths in PAF (paths analysis file)

I want to check my understanding of the “uncategorized” entry in my paths analysis results below.  The way I read this, the output is limited to 10k paths and 8.6% of the flux is associated with path numbers beyond 10k. 8.6% is greater than the total relative flux associated with the first 10k paths. So, what I think this is telling me is that there are a lot of paths, each carrying a very small amount of flux and they really add up.  Since I’ve sorted the paths by total ending flux, the relative flux associated with each path listed is still valid, correct?  I just want to confirm that all flux associated with the listed paths is accounted for.Going into the settings for this output window and adjusting the “relative minimum flux” doesn’t seem to make any difference, even if I increase it all the way to 1.   So, that doesn’t seem to be working.  Is that because I didn’t save the zrd file? Flux In      :       1.40000E-01     (watts)Flux Out     :       1.30764E-02     (watts)Rays

Operand about the slow/long axis of a Toroidal surface to global coordinate

I would like to find the slow/long axis orientation of a Toroidal surface after a series of coordinate break. I tried GLCA,GLCB,GLCC  but they can tell the surface normal vector, but not the surface axis. Thanks.

Hi,How can we be able to apply a threshold at 80% in Irradiance to detect two separate spots? I am referring to peak interdistance optimization to correspond to 80% of the maximum relative irradiance. reflection after inserting coordinate break surface

Our zemax optic studio information: 180117 Premium with Key number of   L102629. Now I have a few questions about the  " coordinate system change after inserting surface break", especially after that is reflection mirror.my questions are;1.  In a sequential mode, after change a surface to be a mirror,  the normal of the surface is located on the “positive z direction side” or “Negative z direction side” ?2. Continue to question 1, is the light reflected on “negative z side surface” or “ positive z side surface” only?  Or reflection can happen on both sides?3. Are there some clear definition about the sign of the rotation angle, especially after propagation direction is changed to other directions ?4.  By the way, can you help me to figure out what are the problems with my layout as attached in the zemax archive file. I want the three mirrors under the windshield can be adjusted independently.  and the line length along the chief ray between the windshield and the first mirror is a fixe

why there is rays come from the image

Hi, everyone, Can you guys help me. Based on the “How to model a beam splitter in sequential mode”, I try to change the image surface on z-axis to the mirror. Unfortunately, the rays had been emitted from the image surface. Can anyone help me to discover what is wrong with my model. I have attached the file below. Maybe there is something that I did not realized or maybe I don’t have the right knowledge about it.  I would love to know and learn. Thank you.
