Detection of collimating beam in angle space NSQ
Hi support team, We have a little problem, We have taken a point source in object space, collimating it with simple optics and trying to simulate an image using slide, in image space with detector rectangle. But the image in 'Image space' is visible in positon space, while in angle space it is only one DOT every time. What we have observed that for collimating beam the detector always shows a DOT in NSQ. Is there any specific setting/technique to observe the image in angle space, at the detector for collimating beams. Please find some images for description. Thanks in advance. Abhishek
About changing Preferences setting in ZOS-API
Here are some notes for references if you are trying to change the preferences settings in ZOS-API! The ZOSAPI.IZOSAPI_Connection.PreferencesFile only works in standalone mode and not in other 3 modes. When you didn't specify a PreferenceFile (or when the given path is wrong), all settings in the preferences cannot be changed by API. In other words, only in standalone mode, you can change preferences settings. The only way to read a second preferencesFile is to close the current IZOSAPI_Application, change the path, and reconstruct the IZOSAPI_Application. In other words, I cannot read a new PreferenceFile in real time when I’m opening a file via ZOS-API in the standalone application mode. Best regards, Michael
Crash of a non-sequential system with diffractive DLL
Hello All, I am trying to simulate a non-sequential system with diffractive optics. Due to the unique optical properties, I have to compile a new user-defined DLL (a diffractive grating with RCWA) under the instruction of the website (Thank you!). Everything works well until I try to trace the ray. As shown in figure1, I can edit the object and plot the layout. However, when the ray is set to be larger than 0, the software will immediately stop and then automatically crash. Therefore, I was wondering are there any possible reasons for this issue? What is the usual solution? Thank you!
Compensators move out of limit
Hi, I am modeling an asymmertrical system for laser line excitation. The symmetry is broken by a Powell lens to create a top-hat illumination on the sample. The last element is a microscope objective (paraxial surface) after which the beam somewhat evenly irradiates the image plane along x-plane and is close to diffraction limit along the y-plane. I began tolerancing the system, includes a zoom triplet, and cylindrical afocal beam expansion and etc. I hope to achive diffractin limit along the y-plane, to do so i set two elements as compensators. When i set y-spot for tolerance criterion it seems to be working, however if i set the merit fucntion, that is defined for RMS y-spot, the compensator moves way out of its working limits and gives better (but false) results. Polar detector analysis
Hello all, I am using the polar detector to analyse the steering angle. I using a collimated source, diffuser and polar detector. I am facing the following problem. (1) While analyzing the data, steering angle varying with varying the number of analysis rays and the pixels. why it is happening? How shall we decide the number of analysis rays and the pixels in annular and radial direction? (2) How can we decide the angles in the analysis window of the polar detector? (2) Only for the tilt about the y-axis, I am able to save the data points. For the tilt about the x-axis, I am unable to save the data for the tilt, instead of tilt, it's saving the data points for 0 degrees angle. Why it is so? Can anyone please help? The color displayed in the Image Simulation capability
When you want to share your optical system performance with other person who don't understand what is Spot Size, Wavefront, PSF and MTF, the most direct method is using Image Simulation capability. It can be used directly to provide graphic result of imaging with the lens. Image Simulation simulates the formation of images by convolving a source bitmap file with an array of Point Spread Functions. The effects considered include diffraction, aberrations, distortion, relative illumination, image orientation, and polarization. We can observe the real color picture formed by this feature quickly, it is convenient for system work in visible range of wavelength. However, how does Image Simulation Combine those colors? We use wavelengths set in System Explorer and color channels in Image Simulation. Old zemax version 15.5.0 user with permanent USB softkey. (W/o support) I need to install this version on a new computer. I have the sentineldriver installer as well as the prerequisite executable file but i miss the main installation zemax executable ... Some one of the users have still this file in storage ? thanks

How to define distance between lenses in paraxial optics
Hello, I have a system of two lenses with f1=10cm and f2=20cm. Magnification is M=-1.1x. We take two lenses be following links: https://www.newport.com/p/KBX166 and https://www.newport.com/p/KBX154 . And need to define a distance between these two lenses if we place an object in 2cm from the front focal point. So in terms of this task, I have two questions: 1. How can I define in Zemax distance between the first lens and the object if I know that between the object and the FFL it is 2cm. 2. How can I measure the distance between two lenses and the total throw? Thank you in advance!

Thorlabs lens Null Object
When I add a Thorlabs lens from the catalog in Non-Sequential Mode, two entries are added in the Non-Sequential Component Editor. The first is a Null Object , and the Comment contains the name of the lens followed by '.V'. The second is a Standard Lens, and the Comment is the lens name followed by '.1'. It has all the expected lens properties, and its Ref Object is set to the Null Object that accompanies it. Is there some utility here? Is it better to position the Null Object and let the lens follow it or something? Thanks.

I am using non-sequential mode. I want to do surface treatment of various shapes. I will attach an image. 1. Can only one surface be set for diffuse reflection? 2. Is it possible to treat only the center part of the surface as a diffuse reflection surface as shown in Figure (4)?
I am an educator. I have a ZEMAX optic studio academic licence. I reinstalled my pc and when I try to install the software again, I get a license error. My license is used and I can't activate it again. Transfer code had to be created for the license, but I didn't know that. What do I have to do now? How can ı create a transfer code for my licence?
