access to cfg file

Hi I want to create zpl macro that  print TFR (throogh focus MTF) data to text file. In order to get relevant information I need to change the settings. I tried to do this by 'MODIFYSETTINGS' but then I got error massage that said 'cannot open setting file'. I did not find any explanation in Zemax manual where this setting file located and I can create it  such that it can be open. I would like if you can give me some information about this file type and how I can access into it. Thanks!   image of ZPL file:

Optimization operand name in ZPL code

Good afternoon! I am studying the ZPL macro language in order to simplify the analysis of data in the optimization process. In the macro being developed, I would like to implement the function of sorting optimization operands by their contribution. I know that such information is in the "" section, but I'm interested in the implementation in the ZPL language. There are no problems with the sort itself, I use the IF-THEN conditions in sequence, however, I cannot find a way to display the name of the operand by its ID code. Initially, I thought that the numerical function OPER(…,1) could give me the name of the operand in the string, however, as it turns out, this numeric function returns the ID code of the operand. Could you help me? Thanks

slope error for asphere specification

Hi all Surface slope error is considered by lens manufacturer as an essential specification for asphere production. Unfortunately Zemax doesn't still allow directy tolerancing on slope error and it is suggested that user should write a macro to do it. So, here is my question: Does somebody have such a macro that he/she would be so kind to share?  Thank you! Renaud

Rounding numeric values when creating a ZPL macro

Good afternoon.I have a question about working with numeric variables when writing an ZPL macro. Is it possible to round the values assigned to variables with the required accuracy? I'm looking for functions similar to (FLOOR.MATH) and (CEILING.MATH) in Microsoft Excel. I understand that i can create a loop that allows me to sequentially compare the value of interest with i and i+1 value. I would like to create an ZPLM operand using rounding, so it seems to me that this way will slow down the optimization, especially with a high degree of rounding accuracy.As an example, we can discuss the case where the value 24.432 needs to be rounded up to 24.0 or 24.5.

ZPL Macro for Ray Trace in Mixed mode

Hi,I am facing an issue when I try to extract ray trace data for a non sequential component in mixed mode of Zemax. In the above data, I want to get the direction cosines of normal and incident ray for NSC object 7 and 2 using a ZPL macro (as I am tracing a 10000 rays). Since for RANX(surface) (Surface number in the sequential editor has to be given) I don’t know which surface number has to given for this case. I also tried to save the ray trace data every time I trace the ray, but When I run RAYTRACE hx,hy,px,py,wav, (for different px and py), somehow the data in the Raytrace text is not getting update. Can you please provide me a solution for this.

How to define a fiber output for a source Gaussian

I have a very simple question. How could I define a source Gaussian out from a single mode fiber, which core size is 4 micro, NA =0.12. I know the beam size (diameter) should be set to be MFD, how to put the parameter for position? should I put the parameter of the position as Rayleigh distance Zr? or should I use MFD/(2*NA)? Thanks for your answer in advance.

Exporting to .txt file when running a macro from the command line

I am currently tyring to run a macro from the command line of my computer. The macro includes the command : >>> OUTPUT 'exampleFile', APPEND This is used to create an output txt file by the name of 'exampleFile.' Now, when I run this macro through the command line, no file is generated. But, when this macro is run through optic studio, there is a file that is generated named exampleFile. I don't understand why this step is ignored when the macro is used through the command line?

Total power and total flux

Hi! I’m calculating the energy inside a surface with LEDS with different detectors: volume detector, sphere as detector, volume pipe as detector… but I can’t get the same values across them… I don’t know why if I hace the same system…From objects as a detector I get total power, but from volume detector total flux (all of them in mW); is this the same?When I take a value from the matrix in volume detector, what is this? flux, power¿?This is my file, I calculate the three detectors individuallyThanks in advance,Carmen

Floating point number representation; issues in OpticStudio

OpticStudio is no different from any other software in using floating-point representation for storing numbers other than integers. Although the accuracy is very high, sometimes a number like 0.7 can be stored internally as a very close approximation, like 0.700000000001712 or 0.6999999999998394 for example. For calculations these differences are usually acceptable. The differences are generally confined to the digits near the limits of double precision storage anyway. Be very careful, however, using numbers like these in a comparative, like checking if a variable is less than another. In Zemax Programming Language (ZPL), OS operands, and some types of displays (bar charts), particularly with discrete data divisions, you might see unexpected results. For instance, in the following code, there is a big difference between A being 7.1 and A being 7.099999999981728. Reding data from .dat-file into ZPL macro

Hi,I would like to read several numeric data as well as text data from a .dat-file into a zpl macro to use some of them for further use.For example, the .dat file has 5 rows and 3 lines, divided by Tabs, e.g.:Pos1 3.7 4.2 6.2 8.7Pos2 9.0 7.5 2.8 5.6Pos3 0.5 1.8 4.6 4.3Is it possible to use the READ command for reading the complete .dat-file and to select afterwards some special data for further optimization?Or would it be possible to read only some special data from the .dat-file for further use, e.g. (Row2, Line 2 = 9.0) and (Row3, Line 3 =1.8)? I am looking for ZPL command which change NSQ parameter solve from pickup to fixed(off).There is command SOLVETYPE and code PF_p to remove pickup for sequential but this option not available for NSQ parameter pick up. Any suggestion how to do so?

Exporting volume detector data

Hi, I'm quite new to Zemax and was wondering if someone could assist me with processing some volume detector data. I'm currently trying to reconstruct some data from the volume detector and display it in 3D using the Voxel Maker macro. However, the process tends to be quite slow and often crashes with large models. I've written a Matlab script that will pass a binary array and compute the 3D voxelization. However, I need a way of exporting all of the detector cross-sections from Zemax, so that they can be passed by the script. Does anyone know of a way I can do this? I know I can save the individual images seperately within the detector viewer, however, these images will contain the legend and axis titles. It will also be very time-consuming doing this for 100+ cross-sections. Any help would be greatly appreciated! How to scale a section of a lens system from within ZPL?

I am trying to tilt a surface by ZPL command 'SURP 10, 63, 5' to tilt the lens by 5 degree (10 is the surface number). But the lens is not tilted. Could anyone give me the clue why? Thanks!
