Released: June 29th, 2021

OpticStudio 21.2.1 contains the following fixes and enhancements.

Performance & Stability

  • Laser and Fibers – Skew Gaussian Beam and Physical Optics Propagation updated to handle Coordinate Breaks that rotate the local axis 90° with respect to the chief ray.
  • Grid Sag Surface – Improvements to ray tracing for this surface. Previously surfaces with null curvature, null conic, and null first aspheric terms or discontinuous surfaces could cause the ray tracing algorithm to converge at the incorrect location.
  • STAR – Improved stability when FEA dataset is applied to the incorrect surface. Previously this could cause OpticStudio to crash.
  • ZOS-API – Remove Base Sag command for STAR is added to ZOS-API.
  • STAR – Point Size options in Alignment Check are now Small, Medium, Large.

Bugs

  • SVIG Operand – Bug fixed which would sometimes cause the final Merit Function value to incorrectly increase.
  • Huygens MTF vs. Field – MTF is now correctly reported when no rays propagate through system for a specific field point. Previously this was incorrectly reported as 1.
  • Boolean Native Object – The Boolean Native object will now have the correct Object Properties if objects are co-located.
  • STAR – STAR analysis windows now correctly save settings between different OpticStudio sessions. Previously if a ZMX file with saved FEA data was reopened, then the analysis could give different results if it was refreshed.
  • Geometric Image Analysis – Text tab now reports X/Y ray locations with respect to the reference ray. Previously these were reported with respect to the local vertex.
  • Tilt/Decenter Elements – When specifying an off-axis pivot, the default thickness is now correctly compensated for by moving this thickness to a dummy surface. Previously the default thickness was incorrectly deleted.
  • STAR – If an attempt is made to load a .txt file in the Fit Assessment tool that has been manually deleted from the STOP Files folder, an error message is now displayed. Previously this caused OpticStudio to crash.
  • STAR – The file name of the FEA Data Source is now correctly shown in the Fit Assessment and Load FEA Data tools. Previously underscores in a file name were sometimes not displayed correctly.

Known Issues

  • Tilt/Decenter Elements Tool – When applying an off axis pivot (non-zero Pivot X, Pivot Y, or Pivot Z) and the selected "Last Surface" contains a solve other than “Variable” in the Thickness cell, extra care should be taken to verify the results are correct. Until this known issue is fixed, the recommended workaround is to exit the tool, insert a 'dummy' surface after the desired "Last Surface" and then select that ‘dummy’ surface in the tool as the new "Last Surface".
