In some case, user may want to simulate fiber coupling efficiency and consider the effect of the material inside the receiving fiber (usually by assign material at Image Surface). And, there are two capabilities can be used for Single Mode Fiber Coupling - FICL and POP. Which one should be used in this situation? Or both?

I would say POP should be used in this case, since POP will consider the material assigned after image surface correctly. For FICL, both Huygens and FFT algorithm, receiving fiber index cause imaging into glass gives incorrect coupling changes, so development team of Zemax removed the consideration of material after image surface intentionally.
This description will be added into Help Manual of OpticStudio at Fiber Coupling Efficiency section. And Zemax developers are working on it, to put fiber index back into FICL as new feature request now.
If there is huge coupling efficiency difference between POP and FICL in your simulation, we recommend you trust POP as the more reliable one.
