Beam expander with regulated magnification

Hi,

I would like to build with commercially available lenses a beam expander with controlled/regulated up to 4.5x beam magnification. I have theoretical knowledge of beam expanders/reducers etc and built a few but with fixed magnification.  Ideally, it would have to collimate the laser beam with a divergence angle of 0.6  mrad and would be placed within the Rayleigh range, which is 1229 mm. Any suggestion on how to take on this design?

Also, going through Zemax “Design Templets” I came across “laser beam expander” and “zoom beam expander” designs.  What is the difference?

Thanks a lot,

Regards,

Marzanna

To answer the Design Template portion of the question, the systems included came from a variety of sources, formerly found in the Zebase package available as an additional purchase. I don’t know the origin of each system, but they would have been named by various people or firms.

For this specific question, the Zoom Beam Expander appears to be a model for a variable beam expander that changes the expansion by various amounts over three configurations by changing the thicknesses after each of the first two doublets. If you open the file, it will only load the editor, but if you click on the Merit Function Editor or the Multi-Configuration Editor, you can see that the system has already been optimized for a few different ratios, and the variables are still labeled as such if you want to play around with it some more.
