2022 R2 Release Notes
July 7th, 2022
1 Welcome to Ansys Zemax OpticsBuilder
1.1 Convert & Build
OpticsBuilder allows CAD users to quickly start adding mechanical packaging to their optical designs by flawlessly converting and building OpticStudio files into PTC Creo Parametric. Users can start faster by not needing to recreate the geometry of optical components since OpticsBuilder does it automatically for them. This helps CAD users to get it right the first time and avoid errors introduced by manually creating optical components. Users can load the entire optical design, including lens materials, positions, sources, wavelengths, and detectors.
1.2 Analyze optomechanical packaging
OpticsBuilder enables CAD users to detect errors early, reduce back-and-forth communication with Optical Engineers and avoid expensive physical prototyping by delivering analysis tools that show the impact of the mechanical design on optical performance. Find errors within the native CAD environment, without needing to learn a new tool and avoid tedious back and forth between the optical and mechanical design by leveraging OpticStudio’s physics core in the background. CAD users can apply chief ray and ray footprint filters to gain additional insights so that they don’t have to make assumptions or wait for input from the Optical Engineer to know how their mechanical packaging is impacting the optical performance.
1.3 Automatic, push-button optical drawing creation
OpticsBuilder allows CAD users to share ISO 10110 compliant optical drawings with a push of a button using an automatic drawing export tool. Users can save time by automatically filling optical data into the manufacturing parameters on the drawing that was carried into CAD with their optical file. OpticsBuilder reduces rework on production runs by allowing users to connect the auto-fill optical information into their own customer-created drawing templates.
2 Tools, Features, and Capabilities
2.1 License Utility
Set up and manage your Ansys Zemax licenses
The new Ansys Zemax License Utility will automatically launch after the OpticsBuilder installation. This version of OpticsBuilder will only work with Ansys licenses and can be configured to access a local license installed on your machine or point to a network license server. If you are trying to access a Zemax license, i.e. licenses in the format L1XXXXX or any USB license, you will need to install the Zemax version of OpticsBuilder.
