New ansys floating license - how to install on two machines (Laptop and Desktop)?

Hello all! I just changed to an Ansys  floating license. I was able to install the Ansys server on my descktop and to create the licensing file though their licensing portal, so that the software is working now.

Now I wanted to install the software to the Laptop by the same procedure, but it seems that I am not able to have two servers registered, and that the licensing file does only work for one server, which is locally running on my desktop.

How do I get the license run on my Laptop, too?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello!

Yes you can only activate one machine. Ansys licenses are network / floating licenses which are available to other computers on your network. You can configure Opticstudio on your laptop to find the machine you activated.

If you need to use the license when not connected to your network you can also “borrow” it for up to 30 days at a time.

Hello, thanks for the answer. But this does not solve my probelm. since I do not have a server available, but run the license locally on my computer, the linked manual does not help with my issue. How do I access the license on my computer fomr the leaptop while I am logged into my local network?

Hello!

I already addressed this - The machine you activated is effectively the server. You configure Opticstudio on your laptop to find the activated machine over the network. It’s usually just a matter of entering the other computer’s name into the settings.
