Universal plot with compensator

Userlevel 2

Dear Zemax team,

I would like to check the fiber coupling efficiency of my system in dependance of the radius of one of the surfaces.

I am using the FICL operator in the Merit Function and can produce the fiber coupling efficiency plot with a 1D Universal Plot.

This works fine, however I would have to compensate for the focus distance before the fiber to get the correct results. Is there a way to use a Universal plot with a focus distance compensator?

With best regards and many thanks

Hi Markus

You could use the Marginal Ray Height solve to get the Image Plane at the paraxial focus for example:

If that solution doesn't work, you could either run a tolerancing and check the results. The sensivity analysis can give a good idea of the dependence and can be calculated at more points than the min and max tolerances if you select a 3-term or 5-term polynomial. The software will then fit the coupling vs the toleranced radius by a polynomial. The Monte Carlo can also give a good idea of the distribution.

Otherwise you can write a little ZPL/API program to get those values.

Let us know if you need more information.

Dear Sandrine,

thank you very much. The Marginal Ray Height solved my problem!

Best wishes
