I am using Zemax Opticstudio to study PSF distribution on film space.

PSF is based on wave propery of the light.

I am wondering how photon moves after the film space using PSF on the film space

Photon is particle of the light, so, it has its direction.

However, PSF is distribution of the energy and has no direction.

I hope that there is some theories about coverting light wave to photon, but i cannot find.

Could tell me if you know?

Thank you all

Hi @sh0815kang,

I’m not a physicist, so take this answer with a grain of salt.

If you managed to get a PSF, that means you’ve also got the raytracing working. In a way, rays describe the ballistic properties of light, which I think you refer to as “photon”. The PSF is a wave result that is based on the rays, so why not use the rays directly to determine the photons direction? There are Merit Function operands that will give you the direction cosines of a light ray, such as REAA, REAB, and REAC.

I hope this helps.

Take care,

David
