Optimize for Wavefront and Spot simultaneously

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to design an optical system with 2 different configurations. One of those configurations would be with an afocal image space (Wavefront criterion in optimization wizard), and the other configuration should be optimized to get a minimum RMS Spot Size (Spot criterion in optimization wizard). Is there possible to add both groups of operands directly to the same merit function without having to copy and paste the operands? As I see it, the ‘Apply’ button could simply add the resulting operands given by the selected criterion to the already existing merit function in the editor, but it also removes the existing operands.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Are you aware of the DMFS Merit function operand? In the Merit Function Editor (MFE), any operands below DMFS (in row order) gets removed once you run the Wizard (the ’Apply’ button that you mentioned).

Once you create a first Merit function, you could delete the DMFS operand, and create a new one at the very end of the MFE. The second time you create the Merit function, operands should be added after DMFS only, and all the operands above should be preserved.

This is the Help File description of DMFS:

Default merit function start. This operand is a flag to indicate where the default merit function should be appended, if one is subsequently created. The row number after this operand will appear as the default "Start At" row on the default merit function dialog box.

Default is understood as the Merit function automatically created by the Wizard.

I hope this helps and take care,

David
