Hello,
I have a question: Is it possible to simulate 2, parallel collimated sources in Zemax sequential mode or divide a beam?
For example, can I divide the green beam in two, so I can have 2 chief rays for this angle?

Hi Rick,
You can definitely do that with the Multi-Configuration editor. You might also be able to use a paraxial lens for the job, but since I did not fully understand your problem I cannot say for sure.
Please have a look at my example with the Multi-Configuration editor attached (2Chiefs.zar), and let me know if this is the kind of thing you'd like to have.
In short, I use a tilt and decentre around the STOP, and I change the coordinate break parameters through the Multi-Configuration Editor. Thus, creating two chief rays. Please note that you need to use the 3D Layout, and display All Configurations to be able to reproduce my results.
Let me know if this is clear, and do not hesitate to clarify your question.
Take care,
David
Hello David,
This is what I was looking for I think.
Now I want to optimize such a system, that the chief rays of both config for the same angle will coincide (or be as cloase as possible) on the image plane. I don't know if such a thing is possible?
Hi Rick,
Glad this is working.
Yes, it is possible. In the Merit Function Editor, you can use the operand CONF to change between configurations. Then you can have an REAY operand to target the absolute Y-position of each chief ray. You can also use DIFF to take the difference between the chief ray positions given by REAY, for example, and target it to zero to match the chief ray positions in a relative manner.
Does that make sense?
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Yes, thank you for your help! I think I can work it out with that.
Hi Rick,
No problem, my pleasure.
Take care,
David
