Find the object height for a given image height

Off-axis parabolic mirror

Hi, I want to draw an off axis parabolic mirror but i need a source (foused point) as input and collimated beam as output. This means the optical axis and parabola axis are perpendicular to each other. I want to tilt the parabola and keep the source fixed. Looking at knowlege base files for reference I can not understand how to decide the order decenter/tilt or tilt/decenter? Also please explain what is the meaning of before surface, after surface.

Vignetting and Zernike polynomials

Hi everyone, In my system, I use a very large field angle. So with this angle, I have vignetting. My first question is : how the RMS value of the wavefront map is calculated ? Does Zemax use the real shape of the pupil (neither elliptical nor circular) or maybe a circle inside the pupil ?  I see that there is two algorithm to calculate this value : Gaussian quadrature and rectangular array, but I don't understand if I can choose the one I want to make the calculation.  My second question is linked : how the Zernike Standard coefficients are calculated ? To be used, these polynomials need to have a norm radius and a circular pupil. Does a way to know the norm radius used exist ?  Thank you !

Hybrid Mode with multiple exit ports for a single NSC Group?

Hello,  I have a NSC design of a dual Prism beam spitter with a dichroic coating on the splitting face. This dual prism set up creates sets of rays depending on the wavelength. I need to use this NSC Group as one element in an Image Simulation for a Lens, where the output from the lens passes into the entry port of the NSC group, but there will need to be two exit ports since the prism setup creates two sets of rays for two separate sensors that will need to capture different wavelengths.  How can I do this? I figured one way would to use different configurations in Sequential mode where the exit port changes in the two configs, is that the only way or is there an easier alternative? Decenter imported file data file

Hello everyone, I am trying to simulate the coupling efficiency from a single-mode fiber to a silicon waveguide. I did this in the Physical Optics Propagation (POP) analysis by importing the receiver fiber data file from Lumerial. The calculated coupling efficiency in Zemax is very consistent with Lumerical mode overlap analysis. However, sometimes I need to recenter the imported fiber data file to get the highest coupling efficiency because the waveguide mode profile is usually asymmetric. I notice that under the 'Fiber data' tag in the POP analysis, I can set the decenter values if the fiber type is 'Gaussian waist'. However, there seems no decenter setting if I choose the fiber type to be 'file'. Same problem for importing fiber file under 'Beam definition'. I am wondering if there is any way I can decenter the imported fiber file? This would be very useful for fiber-to-chip coupling. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

FICL Optimization for .5 pitch GRIN lens

Hello, I am trying to optimize fiber coupling efficiency of a .5 pitch GRIN in sequential mode. When optimizing this decentered system, the merit function editor says 'Value 4.02 E-11' while coupling efficiency when read from the fiber coupling analyisis window shows a resulf of .809 or  -.92db. Can anyone tell me why these numbers are so different? When I use FICL operand to optimize but i do not decenter the lens, the merit function 'value' seems to correspond correctly with the fiber coupling analysis window. Thank you for your help!

Errors- LoadLibrary failed with error 87: The parameter is incorrect

I encountered the following error when I open OpticStudio every time, how to avoid it?      The problem might not be related to OpticStudio, but related to the graphic settings in your machine. Fresnel Phase Change in NSC Tracing

I’m using Non-Sequential mode to model some interference behavior. I’m trying to figure out if the Phase that is reported by “Coherent Phase” from a detector rectangle INCLUDES the phase shift that occurs at boundary reflections (from Fresnel equations), or if that phase is purely based on the OPL along a ray? I spent the whole morning reading KB articles and documentation on this and eventually I had some luck seeing the expected pi phase shift by using a polarized ray source (Jx=1) and detector rectangle with Polarization parameter = 1.   However, Jy=1 and detector Pol = 2 did NOT show a phase shift even though my ray is incident at near normal incidence.  I saw no impact of changing the Polarization Conversion method (X-axis vs Y-axis) used.   Very confusing. What I want is interference fringes that show the proper phase including the effect of the phase shift induced by Fresnel coefficients that works for both polarization

Problem with ray tracing in a spire optical fiber

I have a problem with the ray tracing in a CAD object. The structure I want to simulate is a spire plastic optical fiber, as the one depicted in the image below. As I don’t know how to generate this object in Zemax (is it posible?), I designed it in SolidWorks, both cladding and core. However, in such a closed loop (2mm radius), there is no light propagation, and I achieve a high transmission. In order to verificate, the simulation is incorrect I put all the structure in a rectangular volume of the same refractive index as the cladding (1.4). In consequence, when the light escapes core and reach cladding, total internal reflection should no occur. The ray should be propagated to the volumen, as there is no RI difference. In the image below, it can be seen it does not happen as predicted. I suppose the problem is related with the render of the 3D object, but is there any solution to this? Thank you in advance.

Creating entrance port through rectangular volume in Non sequential

Working in non-sequential mode, I am trying to create an entrance port through a reflective rectangular volume using a cylinder volume. I have done this previously with a sphere and cylindrical volume but in this situation, the beam bounces off the rectangular volume no matter how the cylinder is postioned. This is a simplified version below of just the beam, rectangular volume and cylinder volume.  Is there a way to make this work or is this not possible?

Detector Modeling

I am trying to model the Osram SPH229 in OpticStudio in NSC mode. While this object isn't directly available as a direct import to OpticStudio, is there any way to either create the object I need and then put a detector inside of it? If that is the case, how do I define the refractive index for the object. If that is not possible, then how do I define a refractive index without specifying material of a CAD model? Thank you.

Lambertian source with slide + source rectangular

Hi, I am setting up a Lambertian light source by placing a 'source rectangular' behind a pre-defined 'slide'. This approach is explained in Zemax document. However, there is not much information about how far the 'source rectangular' should be behind the 'slide'. In my setup, there are also some lenses and apertures. I have experimented a bit, and the different distance between these two can yield quite different images. for instance, with the distance of 1e-3 mm, the image looks like , whild with the distance of 1e-4 mm, the image is  and the radiance intensity is also one order higher.  How can I decided the distance between the source rectangular and the slide, and which one above I should trust? Thank you.

Moving Image plane

Hi guys.I got a problem with my simulation. I want to move the image plane to the focus point as the image below. However, I got a Non-Sequential Component in Surface 1 so that Zemax does not allow to move the image plane.  Is there any way to solve this problem. Thanks in advance and have a good day.

Optimal lighting layout for vertical farming

Hi, I am a student trying to improve light uniformity for a hydroponic system. Which layout would be optimal, square, rectangle etc. Also, how do I determine the distance between each LED. About the compensator. Should I keep using POP method to simulate a image system if the ZBF.file (light source) is not similar to the Gaussian beam??

 Hi everyone,I have Lumerical and Zemax license to run the different scales of simulation.However, I want to do the Zemax propagation after I collect my electromagnetic field data in Lumerical.I use the Zemax interoperability to transfer my electromagnetic field (Lumerical) into ZBF file and use it as the light source in Zemax.(https://support.lumerical.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034936793-Zemax-interoperability-overview)In order to see the interference phenomenon and the focus spot in Zemax, I used POP method with a simple Lens setup.The results were not well. Please tell me how do I adjust my Zemax simulation if I have ZBF file which is not like gaussian beam. Mant thanks,Simon Wang

about diffraction effect

Hi, all. I tried to simulate the effect of a beam propagating through a plexiglass with a hole. I tried two configurations. The first one is the beam goes through the plexiglass with a hole directly, and I observe the intensity distribution at a certain distance after the plexiglass. The second is the beam goes through the plexiglass with the hole first, then it goes forward and is reflected by a retroreflector, I observe the effect of the reflected intensity distribution at the place where the source is located. The origional files are attached. For the first case, I can't see the effect of the hole at all, wherever the detector and the plexiglass are placed and however much the hole is , while for the second case the effect of the hole is that obvious. I just can't figure out why it is like that. Someone could give me some tipps? Thank you in advance! All the best,
