Coating substitution optimization

Hi,it seems that it is not possible to set coatings as “substitute” and use the global search to find the best coating for a surface, like we do for glasses.I’m designing NIR achromatic lenses and used global search function to find the best glasses for chromatic correction and good transmission, for the moment using I.99999 ideal coating, but now I would like to find the best coating available.Any idea?Thanks,Julien

Truncated Spherical Lens: How to model ?

Is it possible to truncate the top/bottom of a spherical lens in Zemax?For example. I would like cut the top/bottom part of a spherical lens to produce a rectangular spherical lens as shown below.Cheers!

Controlling thickness of freeform lens

Hi, I’m using two extended polynomial surfaces to define a lens. How do I control the min and max thickness of the lens? Are there operands like FTGT and FTLT for freeform lenses? Thanks

Ray artefact at 45° object angle in my lens design

Dear All, I see an artefact in rays being projected from 45° to the first lens surface.One of the rays does not hit the lens surface as shown here: The first surface is a dummy surface because object distance is infinity.The spot diagram show a radius of about 1200 µm whereas the spot radius for other object angles is between 4 and 9 µm. Surprisingly 40° and 50° object angle rays do not have same behaviour. Is there a way to rectify this or maybe ways to find sources of this artefact? Any suggestions are welcome. Double pass in non-sequential

I am creating a double pass system in non-sequential. The basic design is a primary and secondary mirror and two windows in between them. This double pass system will be used in the forward and reverse directions. The forward direction (shown below in blue) works as expected however the reverse direction does not (shown below in red).Forward Direction Reverse DirectionThe reverse direction results in the rays back propagating to the source after the second reflection off the primary mirror instead of continuing to the second reflection off of the secondary mirror. I don’t understand why this is happening since the first reflection off each mirror appears to function correctly. How can I determine why the rays are not reflecting as expected?

How to tilt object plane in Scheimpflug setup?

Hi, I am currently trying to simulate a simple Scheimpflug setup. I know the angle between image plane and principal plane ( β ) and want to find the angle between object plane and second principal plane (alpha). I set up my system with a BB floating lens system with aperture “float by stop size” and real image height as my field. In Zemax I inserted a coordinate break directly before the image and set the Tilt X to my angle β. The idea was that I could now use the optimization to determine the angle of my image plane. However, I do not find the correct way to tilt my object plane.I tried putting a coordinate break onto the object plane (using negative thickness after the object) but that doesn’t seem to be correct. Also, I tried to use VDX, VDY, TAN with no success.Could someone please give me a hint how I can setup a Scheimplug setup where I can get the angle of the sharpness plane?

Assign a source to a wavelength (wave#)

I want to assign a source to one of the wavelengths in the System explorer (wave#) to show how it can progress through my non sequential system of filters, fluorescent targets, etc. I tried setting the source properties using the color/spectrum to an actual spectrum file I wrote in the sources folder (even with a monochromatic response at one of the wavelengths) but it didn’t map the rays to the wave# or match the fluorescence wave shift routine. Is this possible and what are the settings on the source object properties to make this work?

I wonder if it is possible to find a place where I can get an ISO 10110 certificate free of charge for students, or is it a very important detail that I have this certificate before working life? What are your comments?

color detector log

is here way to use log scale for color detector? I can see my light with log-10, but cannot with Contrast Enhancement 100%.or can I import color data with same precision as log -10 and info about wave?

UNDO file missing. Cannot open file UNDXXXX.ZMX

I often get this message that does not allow me to undo (F3). I tied closing Zemax and re-opening it to see if it disappears but it does not. I checked to see if such a file exists, and it does not exist. So I am not sure how to proceed. Please advice.

Advice for solidworks ray trace plugin?

Given the break with direct cad exchange with Solidworks and Ansys OpticStudio, can anyone recommend a Ray Trace plugin solution for Solidworks? I’ll still use OpticStudio for all the rigorous analysis and just want a tool that will allow faster iteration with cad geometry directly in Solidworks.These all seem to be options:RayVis from Lambda Research APEX from Breault Research Organization Photopia from LTI Optics, LLCAnyone have good/bad experiences with them? Others to consider?I have no idea on the pricing yet.Thanks in advance for any advice.

Plotting ray incidence angles

Hi everyone,I'm looking for a way to plot ray incidence angles for a given surface. While RAID allows this for individual rays, I'm interested in a plot, similar to the ‘Incident Angle vs. Image Height’ plot, but applicable to an arbitrary surface.Ideally, it would be a 2D plot that shows the incidence angle over field and pupil coordinates. I've explored using the universal plot, but it doesn't seem straightforward since you can't vary the Hy, Py inputs to the merit function directly.I realize this can be achieved with a custom script, and I’m hoping someone might already have a solution or be willing to share something that accomplishes this.Thanks in advance for any help!

Decreasing crosstalk at 4um

I am trying to have a optical system where from a single mode fiber at a wavelength of 532nm, we shape the beam into an ellipse of 1um by 2.5um waist radius at the image plane. For the beam to match acousto-optical deflector’s aperture dimensions (5mmx13mm) with an apodization of 2.5, we collimate the beam with a singlet, then expand it in one direction with a Galilean telescope with cylindrical lenses and then have a telecentric relay system (with a black box objective) that gets the required demagnification at the image plane. I have attached a draft system but the performance is not at good as we need it to be. I have two questions: How can I make the crosstalk/intensity seen by anything over 3.5um away from the center smaller? (Currently it’s around 10^-(3.3) and we would like it to be 10^-4) I noticed that when I measure the size of the rays right before the objective in layout, it isn’t consistent with the beam size at the image. Unable to do a CAD Export of a micro-lens array (MLA) with lens surfaces

Hello: I am unable to successfully export my design to a CAD file that shows the micro lenses on a micro lens array. As shown below: you can see the curvature of the lenses which is absent in the final CAD export. I tried higher spline segments = 256 but it did not change anything in the output CAD file. ZLC file not showing in stock lens matching

I can create a private stock lens catalog from .zos files with extension .zlc. This shows up in the lens catalog list but does not show as option for stock lens matching. If I instead create the private catalog with .zmf extension (using .zmx files), it shows up as option for stock lens matching.Are .zlc files incompatible with stock lens matching?

Position floating element within lens using Merit function

Hi, I have a file of an exisiting lens with floating elements. The file consists of multiple BlackBox elements. Included are also multiple setups with different object distances and the respective thickness that detmermines the position of the floating element for the given focus position.I would now like to calculate additional config for which I want to calculate the object position and floating element position for a given magnification.My idea was to define in the MFE the desired PMAG and set the boundaries for the floating element using TTHI+ABLT and TTGT.However, when I let Zemax optimize this setup it will generate thicknesses that are wrong (=not focus on the image plane and thus very low MTF). Even when I set the object distance to a fixed value that I know from the other configurations it will not find the best thickness for surface 7.When I set the thicknesses for surf0 and surf7 by hand the focus is correct. Can someone tell me what I am missing here? What constrains Zemax

Fresnel 1 中subsegments分段个数对MTF的影响

用理想的菲涅尔面型设计好光学系统之后，把理想面在混合序列下转化为实际菲涅尔面型（fresnel 1）后，设置不同的齿宽，如-Freq设置为-20，#subsegments设置为20时，3D Layout图里不显示菲涅尔的齿形，#subsegments设置为15时，3D显示菲涅尔的实际齿形，对比这两种设置下的MTF，分段20比分段15MTF要好，所以这里我想确认，设置分段20时，3D不显示齿形的原因是显示精度原因吗，MTF值是否可参考？还是必须参考显示真实齿的对应MTF？@chenyuan上图：分段15；下图分段20

System in scattering media

I am working on a simple scatter detection setup. I have a source, a scattering media, and a detector that is located behind the source. I am somehow implementing the scattering wrong, but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.As you can see in the first picture, I am seeing about 130,000 counts on the detector from backwards scattering. This makes sense, but as the second picture shows, when I put the source and detector inside the scattering media I can no longer get any detector counts. I tried to change the “Inside Of” column, but that didn’t work. I also tried playing around with the Volume Physics of the scattering media. I’ve tried Mie Scattering with different settings and Henyey-Greenstein, but it didn’t change anything. What am I doing wrong here?

Hi, I want to simulate a computer-generated hologram through a Grid phase in Zemax. I uploaded my phase information in a PLM structure (size and pixel pitch), but I will not see any correct intensity at image plane even with POP. Do you have any successful example for phase simulation?

Tolerancing issue occurs when using vignetting factors?

I run a tolerancing with my optical system which includes a tolerance script to get RSRE operand in MF.At first, the warning massage "when using vignetting factors, user-defined fields are required" was popped, then I continue to run the tolerancing with Sensitivity Mode and 5 Monte Carlo Run/Saves. The Analysis of Tolerances shows that there is no any RSRE and Criterion change in both Min/Max and Monte Carlo runs I checked the MC_T0005.ZMX, the RSRE and MF have been changed as I expected. I’m not sure if the setting vignetting factor is the root cause here. What should I do to make MF operands update correctly in the Analysis of Tolerances?Thanks

assigning physical properties to Surfaces from STEP file

Hello Fellow Zemaxers, I am relatively new to optical simulations with Zemax. Does anybody know how to assign optical Properties to Surfaces within an imported STEP file. the round face has a diffraction grating on it with x lines / µm. How can I assign a mirror grating on this surface. Kind Regards

Why is surface Clear Semi-Diameter not Opening fully for all rays to pass through?

Hi all gurus,I have a sequential model of a lens here with a lens and a flat PMMA sheet. Some of my rays from higher field angle (colored green) pass through outside of the (auto set) clear semi-diameter.Is there a setting in my model that I overlooked here?
