Chief Ray Follow solve does not converge,

Hi, I am new in Optic Studio. I am trying to model spectrometer (according to Knowledgebase, https://support.zemax.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005578862-How-to-build-a-spectrometer-implementation) But I am trying to use my own setup (transmission), lenses and wavelength (850-1050nm). When I entered Coordinates break and set the Chief ray, I’ve got an error "Surface 12: Chief Ray Follow solve does not converge,"

Would you please help me?

Thanks!

Hi Radim,

Since you are using a refractive diffraction grating in your design with very dense grooves (3.33 lines/um), emergence angle of rays from grating is huge and tries to propagate in same direction of incidence. That is why you are getting this error.

If you slightly reduce your groove density you will be able to rectify your problem.

Fig: Diffraction from grating having 1.7 lines/um

Rays are almost emerging at 90 degree from the grating, if further lines/um will increase from 1.7 you will get the same error (Surface 12: Chief Ray Follow solve does not converge).

Fig: Diffraction from grating having 1.8 lines/um

Hope this helps!

Thanks.

Thank you!

Regards.
