How to calculate diffraction with a CAD model?

I am trying to simulate light incident on a semiconductor sample underneath an AFM tip. The AFM tip has micron-scale dimensions, so diffraction will occur. I have created a CAD model of the AFM tip in Solidworks and imported it into Zemax as an STL file. I am not sure how to set up my Zemax project to calculate diffraction around the AFM tip. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.The CAD model and Zemax project are attached here. Thank you!

Rounded tip axicon modelling (continued)

Hi all, I hope everyone is still doing well. Following on from my last post (see “Related topics”) I have been trying to model an imperfect axicon tip for a 20 degree axicon from Thorlabs (AX2520-B). I have been using the standard surface within the lens data editor to do so.From the instructions within the help function for the standard surface, I have calculated the conic term to be -8.54 and have estimated the radius of the tip curvature to be approximately 30 micron (as the help function states that this value is not too important as long as it is significantly smaller than the total aperture of the lens, which it is in this case).Having placed surfaces at every 0.1 mm from the (now imperfect) conical tip across its approximately 7.5 mm Bessel zone length for the 2.6 mm 1/e^2 input beam diameter (giving a total of 82 surfaces in the attached files), I only observe miniscule oscillations in the peak irradiance on axis, contrary to my experimental observations (as well as that from v

Metalens Hybrid simulation

 Hi，I want to simulate the performance improvement after inserting a metalens in camera lens, similar to the result publish in Nano letters (DOI: 10.1021/acs.nanolett.8b03567).Nano letters paper figure 5, using zemax to simulate metacorrector with microscope objective supporting information for Nano letters paper, using zemax “grid phase” to calculate the focal length shift and focal spot frofile I want to calculate the focal length shift, focal spot frofile and wavefront aberration function just like this paper. In my case, the grid phase data was generated using matlab and imported to zemax. The wavefront result was improved, but other results seems unchanged. The physical optics propagation result barely changed, I am not sure about the calculation result. original and final wavefrontoriginal and final POPoriginal and final PSF

Should I keep using POP method to simulate a image system if the ZBF.file (light source) is not similar to the Gaussian beam??

 Hi everyone,I have Lumerical and Zemax license to run the different scales of simulation.However, I want to do the Zemax propagation after I collect my electromagnetic field data in Lumerical.I use the Zemax interoperability to transfer my electromagnetic field (Lumerical) into ZBF file and use it as the light source in Zemax.(https://support.lumerical.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034936793-Zemax-interoperability-overview)In order to see the interference phenomenon and the focus spot in Zemax, I used POP method with a simple Lens setup.The results were not well. Please tell me how do I adjust my Zemax simulation if I have ZBF file which is not like gaussian beam. Mant thanks,Simon Wang

How to convert collected data to PPFD

Greetings, I am creating a horicultural fixture. Which data do I collect to convert it into PPFD. For instance, do I collect the luminous intensity or incoherent illumination. Also, is there a simple mathematical factor that relate the data I mentioned to PPFD so that conversion can be done quickly?Thanks!

about diffraction effect

Hi, all. I tried to simulate the effect of a beam propagating through a plexiglass with a hole. I tried two configurations. The first one is the beam goes through the plexiglass with a hole directly, and I observe the intensity distribution at a certain distance after the plexiglass. The second is the beam goes through the plexiglass with the hole first, then it goes forward and is reflected by a retroreflector, I observe the effect of the reflected intensity distribution at the place where the source is located. The origional files are attached. For the first case, I can't see the effect of the hole at all, wherever the detector and the plexiglass are placed and however much the hole is , while for the second case the effect of the hole is that obvious. I just can't figure out why it is like that. Someone could give me some tipps? Thank you in advance! All the best,

Compensators move out of limit

Hi, I am modeling an asymmertrical system for laser line excitation. The symmetry is broken by a Powell lens to create a top-hat illumination on the sample. The last element is a microscope objective (paraxial surface) after which the beam somewhat evenly irradiates the image plane along x-plane and is close to diffraction limit along the y-plane. I began tolerancing the system, includes a zoom triplet, and cylindrical afocal beam expansion and etc. I hope to achive diffractin limit along the y-plane, to do so i set two elements as compensators. When i set y-spot for tolerance criterion it seems to be working, however if i set the merit fucntion, that is defined for RMS y-spot, the compensator moves way out of its working limits and gives better (but false) results. Export ray trace in non sequential mode

Good afternoon, I have some questions regarding the export of Zemax non-sequential mode ray trace into Catia. To trace rays, I use Analyse>Ray Trace with 10millions layout rays. At the end, I have a .zrd file. Is it possible to directly convert this file into a file readable by Catia ? Or is it possible to export directly the design with the layout into a .stp file or again a file readalbe by Catia ? Tangential and sagittal RMS spot size vs. spectrometer resolution

Good morning, I am designing a broadband spectrometer (currently in sequential mode). I think someone may answer the following questions way faster than I can. I am interested in measuring the spot size in the dispersion direction (therefore not as a general RMS parameter, as it is usually given). Is there a way in Zemax to automatically measure it through the merit function? I know that the optimization wizard allows to choose a X Weight and an Y Weight. Is there any reference I can read of the topic? Can you advice any specific reference on how to relate the calculated RMS spot size in Zemax to the spectrometer resolution? How to create a routine work

Hi everyone, can I ask for your kindness help.   My work is to create DAT files as much as possible and put it in one folder. Then, by using Grid Phase in my system, I can import the created DAT file. After importing DAT file in Grid Phase, I have to save the beam profile in text file(.txt) using POP. So, I want to create a routine work so that I can do the all the steps above in one step and fast way. It is impossible to create a system so that I can import all the DAT files in one folder into Grid Phase in Zemax and also save all the beam profiles in text file in one folder in one step?   I have heard some method which is by using ZPL Macros, but I did not know any knowledge about it. Maybe someone can help me in order to create the routine work or maybe there is others method which is more suitable for my work that has been discussed above.   Thank you.

Crash of a non-sequential system with diffractive DLL

Hello All, I am trying to simulate a non-sequential system with diffractive optics. Due to the unique optical properties, I have to compile a new user-defined DLL (a diffractive grating with RCWA) under the instruction of the website (Thank you!). Everything works well until I try to trace the ray. As shown in figure1, I can edit the object and plot the layout. However, when the ray is set to be larger than 0, the software will immediately stop and then automatically crash. Therefore, I was wondering are there any possible reasons for this issue? What is the usual solution? Thank you!

Modeling irregularity on an even asphere

I have a design with the lenses out for fab with manufacturers. However, they've come back and told me that due to unforseen tooling issues, the lenses won't meet the irregularity spec. Is there a way to model irregularity on this even aspheric  surface short of increasing TEZI in my tolerancing analysis and rerunning the Monte Carlo? Plot twist: the vendor said they could meet the irregurity spec in the inner zone of the aspheric surface (1 fringe) but the outter zone would be higher (4 fringes).

Polar detector analysis

Hello all, I am using the polar detector to analyse the steering angle. I using a collimated source, diffuser and polar detector. I am facing the following problem. (1) While analyzing the data, steering angle varying with varying the number of analysis rays and the pixels. why it is happening? How shall we decide the number of analysis rays and the pixels in annular and radial direction? (2) How can we decide the angles in the analysis window of the polar detector? (2) Only for the tilt about the y-axis, I am able to save the data points. For the tilt about the x-axis, I am unable to save the data for the tilt, instead of tilt, it's saving the data points for 0 degrees angle. Why it is so? Simulate the illuminance of a complex surface

Hi, Is it possible to simulate the illuminance of a complex surface by detecting the point values? I know that the values per pixel can be extrapolated from the detector viewer, but I need a render where I can control the representation of the values with a colorimetric scale. Has anyone already faced and solved this problem? Thanks a lot.

The difference between the 'image surface' of sequential and the 'detector' of non-sequential?

During my using OpticStudio, sometimes the exact same imaging system gets different plots in sequential and non-sequential mode. What's the difference between the 'image surface' of sequential and the 'detector' of non-sequential?  And how can I get information about the imaging quality?(In sequential mode there are all kinds of tools such as Rays ＆ Spots, PSF in the image quality group. But in non-sequential mode there are only Trace Rays and Detector ＆ Analysis group. ) For example, how can I get the PSF information using detector?

Reading the effect of Random Polarization by Detector Rectangle.

Hi there, I am trying to model a Fiber Interferometer in Non-Sequential mode and wanting to see an interference pattern with the effect of multiple reflections.  I have a diode source which has 3mW Power. In the source, Random Polarization box is checked. I have a cylinder and end the of the cylinder is coated. After the coating, I have a Mirror Detector Rectangle and I am trying to read the Coherent Power. By the way,  the 'Normalize Coherent Power' box is not checked in the detector because I want to see an interference pattern with the effect of multiple reflections between coating and mirror detector. I read the Total Power of the laser as 2 mW. There is no problem here because I am using coatings at the end of the fiber and Polarization Flag of the detector is 0 for now. But, when I try to read the power of laser with Polarization Flag is 1, I read the Total Power of Laser around 10^(-6) mW. The power is also the same with Polarization Flag 2. The reason I chan

Digital Holography simulation

Greetings, I am trying to record an off-axis hologram of a USAF resolution target using the non-sequential mode environment. The end goal is to study the aberrations introduced by the various optics involved in a holographic experiment setup. The desired setup looks like the image below, Is there a way to acheive this? I can set up the collimated laser beam, mirrors, beam splitters, and detector to capture the hologram interference pattern, but I do not know how to go about inserting the USAF target and simulating the light diffraction from it.                                Thank you for your time. -Jose

Object space and image space plots

I frequently need to determine the MTF of a lens in object space rather than image space.  I would find it a big help to be able to have a check box for "object space, image space". It is easier to present to customers in object space because they can relate to the dimensions.  Also I often need to check the resolution over a focus range (in object space).  It's a bit tedious repeatedly working out the magnification at each focus range to scale the MTF into object space.

How to model a cylinder detector surface?

Hello, I am trying to set up a model where an LED is inside a plastic cylinder.  I would like to know the light distribution pattern that is exiting the outer surface of the plastic cylinder.  My thought would be to use a cylinder detector sized a small amount over the OD of the plastic cylinder, but this type of detector is not available.    Any thoughts on how to do this?

Calculate the "field Type" "Angle" from the "field Type" "Real Image Height" with a ZPL

Is it possible to calculate the 'field Type' 'Angle' (Code 0) from the 'field Type' 'Real Image Height' (Code 3) with a ZPL script? It is basically what the Zemax 'Field data editor' offers with the 'Convert to' option. However, I do not need to *convert* the field type, but just have to determine the value. With 'Single Ray Trace' as well as with the operand 'RAID', I only get one angle. But I need the two angles as defined for the 'field Type' 'Angle' Thank you and best regards, Christof.
